This page is also linked from the original http://www.ultimatebootcd.com page - MS is on his a$$ to change the domain name.
Excellent tools: http://www.windowsubcd.com/contents.htm
I have gotten a lot of use out of the original Ultimate Boot CD, but this takes the concept forward.
It takes a little time to put together, but I built and burned one this evening for my "bag of tricks". Looks like it'll be handy with all of the 0wned machines I've been fixing lately.
There's also a link on that site to another program called AutoStreamer http://www.autopatcher.com/autostreamer.html, which makes slipstreaming service packs into a bootable XP CD real easy.
I know that slipstreaming can be done from the command line, but this little app makes it simple - no fumbling syntax or commands... Plus the output is an .iso file which makes a bootable CD - no muss, no fuss.

its when you integrate the new upgrade patches (sp1 or sp2, in this case) into your base installation disc. so, when you install a fresh new copy of Windows XP, it'll also install SP2 right then and there.

No problem...
Try the Windows UBCD... Make one as shown in the instructions on the site and boot with it. Play around and become familiar with it so you'll be aware of the capabilities available before you have to fix a problem with it.
I tried it out on a trojan-infected machine that would boot but crash immediately. The A/V client on the Windows UBCD disk found and deleted 37 trojan files. I was then able to fix the remaining problems from a normal boot-up. If I hadn't had the CD it probably would have been nuke-and-pave time.
It'll do tons of other stuff that I haven't tried out yet.
The WinUBCD is a collection of freeware Windows utilities. The CD includes many different types of utilities so you will be prepared when disaster strikes. The WinUBCD uses Bart's PE which allows you to create a custom CD that will boot into a Windows environment with network support. Perfect for recovering deleted files on your harddrive without accidentally overwriting them or scanning a virus infected system. This project currently has 50+ utilities included in the download. Anti-Virus, CMOS password recovery, password finders, file recovery, MBR backup and recovery, etc. types of applications are all included in the download. Please visit the [URL=http://www.windowsubcd.com/contents.htm]List of Tools (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/member.php?u=8443) page for a complete list of what is included in the project.

You didn't have to - SP2 is an inclusive update, meaning it includes all of the SP1 fixes/changes/updates plus every critical update released since SP1.
Every geek, from the home power user to the corporate IT support lead needs to make a Windows UBCD and keep it handy. It'll literally save your bacon...

Believe it or not, I thought of you and EsDee immediately (along with some other folks I know "offline") when I first tried it. I guess that was the result of reading tales of your trials and tribulations here.
You're quite welcome. I'm glad you found it useful. I wish I could take credit for anything other than pointing it out.

I didn't slipstreamed SP1 and then SP2 at the same time. I did that everytime SP is released.

OK, gotcha - you have an XP CD, an XP SP1 CD and an XP SP2 CD all slipstreamed and ready to go depending upon what you need at a specific time.
Right?

cuz the constant updates of the different software, apps and programs in PEbuilder itself.
in the instruction itself, the author even advises to delete the plugin folder that contained the older apps in the original pebuilder folder, which is then replaced by the plugin folder in the updated UBCD program.
building just one ISO tends to make it easily dated when a new update of a program, or when a better program comes out.

Not only that, but I'm thinking they would be in a WORLD of hurt with the MS legal team if they posted the XP install disk as part of an .ISO.

Yeah I got a copy from a friend. After you pop the disc into a brand new computer, all you have to do is configure the HDD partitioning, and afterwards it completely installs XP with SP2 without you having to make a single mouse click (does all the rebooting and registration by itself) and also automatically applies all the "optimize your windows settings" tips that you often see in magazines so that windows runs super-fast. Made by computer geeks for the comp-illiterate(me).

I built the CD according to the instructions at the site, and everything that's been said is true-- this is an awesome set of utilities.
I can't seem to find the utility to load XP, though. I have a machine I want to reimage, but short of going through each utility I can't locate which one does what Arkistan described.
Can any of you UBCD experts offer a tip?

I think Arki might be mistaken. I don't believe the functionality he describes is part of the UBCD. Try this... (http://unattended.msfn.org/)
I don't know if that is exactly what he has, but it sounds close...

Actually, I have no idea what kind of bootable install CD I have. :)
I just got it from a friend. I assumed it was what this thread was talking about because it did a similar thing to what people were mentioning about.... hehe sorry if I caused any confusion, caribiner!

Not a problem, Arki. :) This is still a great CD, though.
And thanks for the other link, Mike-- I'm going to build one of those discs.
