Hahaha, you fell for it too. I have yet to play a single xbox or ps2 game that has a TRUE widescreen mode (doenst just stretch to fit) I have tried many games that are supposed to support it including GT3, GTA3+VC, Halo, +many others.
If you figure it out, let me know!
P.S. That is some great filmwork. I think I have motion sickness :puke:

Hmmm... I guess you have to fu@%ing curse after each measurement huh? :hmm: :2far: :hihi:

BTW... in true widescreen, the images don't get wider, but you get a wider "perception" of the screen. Like forr example... in normal view, you'd see the street, while in wide view, you'd see the street, the fire hydrant on the curb and some pedestrians on the sidewalk. :D

Yes, precisely that is what WS should look like. But games just get wider instead of showing more.

Thank you, Professor! :D

WTF is the point of in-game ws options then? :( WS tvs already have a stretch option.

edit: i was reading this thread (http://www.madison.med.va.gov/hdg/hdg.asp?submit=ShowForum) and one of the dudes said:

you guys think 480p is worth getting the component cables for? i'm using S-Vid now. (BTW, i wasn't seeing 16:9 format on my TV until i switched to S-Video connection on the PS2)

so I guess I should go out and buy a s-video cable...

If you can, get a component cable.

As for the 16:9 issue, give me 30 minutes or so to try it here on my TV. I'll come back and let you know what I see on GTA.

Ok, tried Vice City out just now. When I have Widescreen turned off, and my TV picture set to Wide mode, the picture is "squashed" vertically. The tail of my car was 12.75 inches wide. The car was noticably skewed as was most everything else. I went back and turned Widescreen on and measured the car again. 12.5 inches. The picture was much more "square", I.E., not all messed up. Everything appeared as it should. I actually lost vertical size, but in a good way. No matter which option I chose, the horizontal size never changed.

Dumb question, but do you have 16:9 mode turned on in the PS2 options? Not the in game setting, but the actual output of the PS2 itself?

Nah, the system setting was at 4:3. I didn't even know that you could set it to 16:9. After I did it, I'm pretty sure I could see a difference between the in-game widescreen and normal modes. Still pisses me off that ws doesn't give me a greater horizontal field of vision though. Thanks guys.

edit: World Driver Championship (http://ign64.ign.com/articles/160/160079p1.html), a game I played a longgggggg time ago on the n64, had a letterbox mode (true ws). Why don't these newer games have the same option? :(
