i am converting a suitcase-style hardshell viola case into a star wars miniatures case... what i need, ideally, is several sheets of 1-inch thick foam, about 18" by 36" (at least)... i'll put down a solid layer, then a layer with squares cut out to hold the minis, then a removable tray for the next layer...
not the egg-carton stuff, it needs to be flat... memory foam bed stuff is too expensive and too thick...
any ideas? i kinda browsed ebay and didn't find anything suitable. would a hardware store have something like that?

check the yellowpages for foam. we have a memory foam outlet about an hour from here that carries that stuff for pretty cheap. you can buy scrap pieces and whatnot.
btw..how much you looking to spend?
what about the refridgerator liners on this page?

How about this place? Looks like you can pick the type of foam that you want. I have never ordered from there personally. Just thought that I would help ya search :). Price seems fairly reasonable with free shipping.

you guys rock... i'm trying to decide between the fridge liners and the custom-cut stuff (which is REALLY reasonable!)

Home Depot sells 4' by 8' sheets of rigid foam for around 10 bucks.

I'd start at a craft store for this...
That is where I found something similar for when I was needing it for shipping an item.
