What do you guys thinkof the BMW program where you take delivery of your new Bimmer in Europe and have it ship to the US. On the BMW site they say it's cheaper than buying it here. I'm thinking about doing that in the near future. The cost savings equal a trip to Europe. It's a good way to see Europe in your new BMW.

It's great if you're a soldier based in Germany. Helluva lot cheaper and you get free shipping from the military for one car. I know quite a few soldiers who plan on doing that and giving away a brand spanking new BMW to family or sell it after a few years.

The european delivery programs usualy include airfare, insurance, and shipping, etc. Good deals. My sis just did it with Volvo for an XC70, and she had fun

The European delivery program is a different program than what you are talking about. The troops in Germany buy their bimmers from a dealer right on base at a lower discount price than this delivery program. BTW there is a bunch of paperwork you have to fill out in order to buy the bimmer with the discount.

I remember Cadillac had a Eurpean Delivery program for one of their cars. Also, doesn't VW have one for their Phaeton?

An European Delivery program for Cadillac? They aren't even an European car manufacturer.

Why would anyone buy a Phaeton?

Isn't the Phaeton & A8 both based on the same platform?

The chassis of the car was made in Detroit then it was loaded on to specially equipped jets and shipped to Italy where the body, which was designed by Pinin Farina (of Ferrari fame), was mounted to the chassis. After this the cars were loaded back on the jetliners and shipped back to the USA for completion. This gave it a few interesting phrases such as "the flying Cadillac from Italy" and "the worlds longest assembly line." The car was initially priced at $54,000, far above the price of any other contemporary Cadillac. Today's Cadillac XLR, also a convertible roadster, at roughly $70,000 is similarly priced at the top of the Cadillac range

I think they allowed you to purchase the option of watching it be built in Italy or something. I've watched too many shows on the History Channel, I might be confusing a whole lot of nothing.
