So I have been at my new job for about a little bit more than a month now...in this past month I have started to question myself...my speech (am I stuttering??), my literacy (I think I can read...), my hearing (cause I can't seem to understand other people with their poor English), my tone (I am not clear over the phones??), and of course my patience (cause people can just say whatever they want to me and I should just grin and bear it). :yell:
(BTW, I am a receptionist for about 100 or so different companies like a remote receptionist type thing)
Conversation today that has gotten me upset and its ONLY 10:36 AM EST.. :neartears
Some guy calls and gives me an ext. of course not telling me the name so I am looking on my list then I asked the guy what his name was and he says..Joe Tanya...and the guy I needed to transfer him to was one of the big guys that needed to have it announced..so I did it...to over hear him saying that I was a dumba$$ for taking too long and an idiot. Seriously, it is very uncalled for anyone to say that about me - especially when I do have to announce who the caller is and if you don't give me the name of the person you are calling...to TOP it off giving me a BOGUS name to ANNOUNCE! :censored: :dodgy:

I've found that the higher you go in an organization, the more arrogant the people are & the more they tend to think of themselves as more important than everyone else.
Usually they're just trying to compensate for other shortcomings in their lives.

By looking at your name, sig and avatar I would guess you are a girl. Guys are even bigger @$$holes to girls over the phone, it is just terrrible. When people are an ******* to me I usually call them out, shuts them up quick.

Too bad I dont need a receptionist... Our customers are generally very nice. Only 2 complaints in 3 years of business (that called us). Only 1 irate customer and boss was like don't take any bs from him, but it was fun.
Remember not to take things personally. And a cheerful/helpful voice helps.

well - being a remote receptionist I patch phone calls to the clients - no matter where you are - and some clients wants it to have their calls "announced" and some wants it to be forwarded - in some cases like this one - the guy calling was a friend of the boss and so frequently gives me bogus names not knowing I know and then when I patch it through although I am muted I can still hear their conversation - usually I listen enough to know the calls were patched through-today there seems to be hesitance like they didn't know if they were connected so I listened - and then heard that beginning convo. I wasn't suppose to have heard but what got me was when he wanted the bosses other friends to call to see how big of an idiot I am also and so forth...honestly jokes between friends or not - they should keep it between themselves when they get on the phones or call them directly-really I feel like a Simpsons episode with Bart calling Moe and then instead I am relaying it :censored:
btw - I wanted to thank everyone that responded - I don't post much usually and I really needed to vent that this morning - especially because I ended up crying...thanks for listening. :)

i think that i am going to buy a big box of chocolates for the receptionist in my office building... i'm sorry that you don't get the respect that you rightly deserve at work - if i were you, i'd confront that guy and demand a raise... seriously, it'll intimidate the hell outta him and you'll either get more money or be out one ****ty job! :)

I am sorry you had to deal with that a$$hole. :(
As far as the fake names go I try to make up fake names to tell the receptionist, when I call friends at work, not to pull something over on the receptionist but to f with my friends. I don't do it all the time b/c then my friends would always be expecting it. :)

Although I agree that in this case the guy is arrogant, you cannot apply a black and white standard to people depending on where they are in the organization.
