We've had a few threads about knowing/meeting famous people. Have any of you had a schoolmate, family friend, coworker, etc, later go on to achieve fame and renown?

I thought of this because I just saw an ad for Yanni's latest CD. I never knew Yanni personally, but he was the keyboardist in a popular local band when I was in college. We used to chat quite a bit with the other band members after shows, but not Yanni, he always seemed a bit more business-like.

Pretty much I've known Emmett Smith and Roy Jones Jr. since we were kids... I went to middle school with Emmett and Roy's mother and sisters were members of my church (even though he didn't attend much...)

I went to high school with the blonde girl from Old School who flashes "Blue" right before he has a heart attack and dies.

And apparently my sister was in girl scouts with Stacy Fergeson, the girl who sings with the Black Eyed Peas now.

A highschool classmate , Clay Oswald, plays keyboards with Gloria Estefan and has been a Grammy Nominee. Another is head of Classical Music at Sony Records.

I have met a few of the past winners of the Tour de France on different occasions- Lance Armstrong (a friend was the top rider for Subaru when Lance was on the team- before his cancer), Greg Lemond, Bernard Hinault, and Eddie Mercxs.

ES kicked butt last week. I have season tix for the Cardinals games and the sparse crowd was going wild for him.

127 yds rushing and his 1st pass ever was for a touchdown.

BTW, Emmitt has the highest quarterback rating in NFL history at 158 and change. :)

I don't think he qualfies since he has only tossed one pass :D

Only famous person I know isn't famous yet. Andy Cisco(minor league pitcher for the cubs). Went to high school with him, took a couple classes with him. Was selected like 46th overall during the draft of 2001.

He could become famous but probably not knowing how much of an idiot he is.

Well I grew up with a bunch of folks who had well-known parents, was Andrew Giuliani's camp counselor when Rudy was very early in his first term as mayor, so met Rudy then . . . and a guy I used to play against in HS, Jason Marquis, is a pitcher for the Cards . . . but didn't really know him. But for friends who have become well-known . . . I've mentioned him in another thread . . . Ari Hest . . . a friend from HS . . . he's now a musician . . .

http://www.arihest.com . . . go see him play when he's in your area

I thought of a couple more... One of my friends from school co-wrote the song "Pour Me" by Trick Pony (probably not a lot of country music fans here...) Also, the song "Zamboni Machine" you hear at every hockey arena across the country was by some acquaintances at college who played at my wedding dance.

Now that I read that, I realize that's not even almost-famous. Hmmm, I guess when you live in rural Minnesota, that's all you get!

I also know a guy who played Gavroche in the Broadway production of Les Miserables. He's also been on some show on MTV, Disney Channel, etc.
