I don't get a 3-day weekend. However, next week I get to go to this
http://secure.imn.org/~conference/im/index2.cfm?sys_code=41012_SF_abs_east&header=on
Pretty much from Tues->Fri I get to stay at the marriot and get wined and dined by i-bankers. Evenings are filled with wine tasting at trump's resort to sunset cruise dinners.
I dun get paid much considering what I have done for the company, but some of the bene's are nice ;).

So close....boss said we'd have Monday off, then she changed her mind. :(

I have the whole long weekend off, but I'm also sick, so it doesn't count anymore. :(
Oh well, at least I'll have plenty of time to rid myself of this bug so that I don't have to use up sick days.

I had the whole day off today because I pulled an 18-hour shift the day before tracking down and isolating a routing software bug in our optical switching equipment. I had several vendor software developers on a conference call with me and a couple high-level people from my company. We had been dealing with this problem for the last 6 months or so and it would only occur randomly in our global network about once a month. It had occurred again yesterday afternoon and I was able to get everyone online to work with me on it fast. I wasn't about to let everyone go until we had isolated the problem. Thankfully we have found the problem and it is going to require a major code fix because of another (much larger) vendor's incorrect handling of optical traffic.
I had to write it all up at about 2am last night when we were done and send out the short-term workaround and long-term solution. It is a nice thing about having an engineering degree - it allows you to be very adaptable among many different technical fields. I know some people are like, "Geez! 18 hours? And you're Exempt? I'd never do that!". All I can say it it was 18 hours well spent to resolve a problem that could have taken a couple more months to track down.
Now, on to the beer!

I'm still off bonding with my girl. :D My company doesn't have Columbus Day as a holiday. Usually only government workers get this day off.

I have no idea if we have Monday off. I didn't get an email from HR so I'll assume we're working.
Well, apparently all the NBC/GE people knew we had monday off...but nobody communicated that to all of the Vivendi people. Good thing I found out and told everybody I knew. Of course, if i had known, I would have scheduled a trip to Vegas...
