Ok, so its not really mana...but $17,000.00 suddenly appearing in a bank account is pretty good. Of course, it raises a red flag about whether its really yours or not. However, when it turns out that the $17,000 is yours from the US government for back money owed...now that is great.

Unfortunately, the money isnt mine, but rather someone else in my families. Why cant I get free money?!? Damn it.

wow, 17k, how could they screw up and put it in your account by accident? They have to have bak account numbers and stuff. Weird. Most I have ever gotten into my account that wasnt mine was when they issued 2 pay checks instead of one.

There is a normal amount that the government deposits each month by direct deposit into the account. Thus, if you normally get X and they place Y in instead of X, it could be an accident. This is the government we are talking about here, they screw up money all the time. So when there was an extra $17k, it raised a few eyebrows.

In fact, even though this one was actually correct, there was a check for $750 that was incorrect. When the 17k was confirmed, the other one was confirmed as being an error.

This thread reminded me of this true story by Patrick Combs, a famous carrer-acheiver writer, about the time he deposited one of those fake checks they used to send in Publisher's Clearing House.

Friggin' hilarious!

I agree with Nickel... when you saw that 17,000 was in there... the red flad that SHOULD have gone up was "TIME TO CLOSE THE ACCOUNT!!!!" Hahahaha, no just kidding... what a funny story! :P Too bad they didn't give you a piece of that as consolation!!
