I know, weird question but does anyone remember if win98 SE is a separate operating system from win98 or can you just download an update. I am fixing a computer and the only operating system that I have access to is win98. However, the DVD burning software that I am installing won't install on win98 although they claim to install on win98 SE. TIA.

You need either the Second Edition updates disc, or a whole new OS CD. The updates are not available as a seperate download from Microsoft.

Thanks. I guess I'll have to go looking for the update disk or another operating system (guess I should get a better OS anyways). Thanks again. :wavey2:

If you find it, mf, let us know.

I just assembled a computer using a hard drive from another computer. I don't have the chipset driver disk for the motherboard, but found it from driverdisks.com which I ordered. However, the chipset drivers require 98SE instead of 98 which is on the hard drive.

Johnny, you don't have Win98SE on a disk somewhere? Why not wipe and reinstall that bad baby?

Yes, I do have it. I have the full version and an upgrade from Windows 95 or earlier. However, I have a ton of programs, too which I don't want to reinstall. Won't I lose all of them if I delete Windows 98?

Yep you will have to reinstall the programs if you wiped it. If you are just interested in putting together another computer, you could get a cheap HD and slap that in there. It's usually not good to move a system drive from computer to computer like that but you gotta do what you gotta do. Good luck.
