My friend chartered a boat in Dana Point tomorrow for some deep sea fishing! I'm so excited! Fishing, ocean air, beers, cigars... Yay!

Damn, I'm jealous. What are you going for and how long? Hope you have a nice catch.
My last trip was during my bachelor party in Cabo San Lucas.....seas were rough, my friends were all sick/hungover and it was just a bad trip. (the fishing that is)

The fishing trip became suckage. I didn't sleep at all the night before. I took bonine an hour before we got there and as we got 2 hours out, I started to get sick. I basically spent the whole trip in the galley trying to sleep so I wouldn't puke. Fishing was not too good from what I saw. There was some bonito, mackeral, and sand bass. Apparently, we had to throw a lot of them back because they were puny. Bah.

Sorry to hear that B. That happened to me and I don't think I'll ever go again. I fought it and kept going back up to fish. Each time I went up..... :puke:
I'm a strong man, but that ocean sickness was my Daddy! :) (Pedro M reference)
By the time we got back I must of lost 10 pounds and was starved. I used to sit out in the surf for hours with waves going up and down and nothing...
Bah.. Fishing is overated imo.

Jel, there is a huge difference between being in the water and on the water. The rolling motion on a boat/visual cues are what make you sick. I have only gotten sea sick twice in my life.
Proof that its better in the water:
After Hurricane Andrew, my friend and I were doing our advanced open water dive certs. The blue water was just starting to come back in and so visibility was still only 15 ft, but we couldnt wait anymore and were the first people to go dive a wreck after the storm. The wreck, prior to the storm, was two boats side by side, one a true wreck the other was a planned sinking of an old submarine next to it. As we are making our way out to the location, my friend turned absolutely green. He ended up puking on his fins as we were about to go in (which in turn attracted a sh|tload of fish). But once we were in the water he was all better.
As for my sickness, once was on a fishing trip with my father. Its true bonding to both be hurling over the side at the same time. I dont think he ever has forgiven me for that trip as he tried to get us to just stay home and go another day due to the fact that we knew there was some large chop. Turned out it was 10 ft tall (not the 4 they told us, they even admitted it when we got in and changed the sign). No one caught anything and 95% were hurling.
The second time isnt as clear in my mind....but I think it was 6 ft seas and I didnt particularly like it. My father once again was there and that trip he didnt even bother to try to fish, but went inside to lay down before we even started rolling.
