I downloaded the newed Firefox version 1.0PR and I can't get it to default to tab browsing. Before I would click on a link on the news page and a tab would be added to the firefox window.
WIth this version, it opens another firefox window instead of a tab. I can't find in the documentation or in the options window to just open links as a new tab. Anyone else have this issue?
Thanks.

*Bump* no ideas? I guess I'll install the older version.

You don't want to use an older version - there have been security updates to 1.0PR.
For me, if I hold down Ctrl when I click a link, it opens in a new tab in the same window. If I click with my scroll button it does as well.
Hope this helps.

I use mouse gestures!!!
Right click and go up on the link, and it opens in a new tab in the background!!! GOOD TIMES!!!

/me silently waits on the wings, watches 1.0PR closely...
got burned with .9 release - reverted back to .8
possibly try it later on in another standalone machine and see how it goes. too many extensions ive gotten used to in .8 didnt work with .9 and no suitable replacement in place, or just didnt work the way it did in .8
hopefully it will be a much better experience.

Uninstall/Reinstall. That fixed the first problem I was having with the plugins.

Tried that. I guess the third times the charm.
I didn't see a difference with .8 to .9 but the tab browsing "missing" is annoying. I notice I have to always get Flash when reading USATODAY.com and some backgrounds images don't appear at all in any version of firefox vs IE.
Thanks for the help.

i JUST converted to firefox yesterday.
(well, thats sorta a half-truth, ive been using firefox when i'm in linux mode)
but anyways, i have yet to see anything so special about this tab feature that everyone raves about. both in Linux and Windows, i have to manually create a new tab. doesnt really seem convenient at all. and what is this mouse gesture that you speak of? the only gesture i know that applies is not unlike the one thats found in Nija's sig :P
but i like the built-in search bar (w/ multiple engines)

Well previously you didn't have to manually create a new tab. Clicking on a link would autmatically created a tab in the same window. In this new 1.0 PR version however it opens links in a new window and I can't find an option to open new links as a tab in the same window.

By the way, there is a 1.0 PR security update that you should install:
Tools / Options / Advanced / Check for updates
It's only a small download that gets installed - an issue in the download manager, I think.

Go into Tools > Options, and you'll find a section called Tabbed Browsing (and an option to force what happens when you click a link). Here's a screenshot:

...See if this helps. (The exact option is called "Force links that open in new windows to open in....")
Also, I don't know what you guys mean by "Mouse Gestures" -- doesn't seem to be an option on my setup.

Ok...third times the charm. Apparently my first and second installation of Firefox 1.0PR was completely missing the whole Tools->Tab options. It was also completely missing from the Options->Advanced section also. Weirdness. Works fine now.
Thanks.

I just have it set so that the middle mouse button (scroll button) opens a link in a new tab... man i love that feature. i hate using IE without it.

I tried installing Firefox again on another computer and I get the same issue. The whole 'Tab' option isn't even listed on the menu bar or Tools-> Advanced. It's very odd.

me too.
And for some reason, the "scroll button" tab opening feature sometimes works, and sometimes not under the same machine.

is anyone still having probs with firefox and acrobat reader?
i read up on other ppl's issues, and i've tried the following:
updating to AR 6.0, but that didn't work
so now i'm using AR 5.1 b/c i can open the applicaiton itself, but still not any pdf documents.
updating to firefox 1.0.PR, that still didn't work
removing the unnecessary plug-ins...but that STILL didn't work

Flash, Java, and Acrobat, all works for me! :D
the only thing that DOESNT work for me is that I have some CDs that have windows media movies on them, and the browser can't automatically play them. have to use IE for that.

eureka, i think i've discovered what's wrong....apparently,
Issue Description:
A CD-recording driver is installed that might cause stability problems, including problems shutting down and problems using a CD/DVD drive. This driver will be disabled.
This driver might have been installed by Easy CD Creator, Windows Media Player or RealJukebox. You might not be able to record CDs until you obtain compatible drivers.
i need a way to disable the driver...i've already removed the roxio program...how can i disable the driver?
TIA

I just upgraded from 0.8(?) to 1.0pr last night. This version seems faster. I recommend people checking out all of the extensions. There is so much to choose from for personalizing your browser, such as the builtin bandwidth tester and tinyurl creator. The initial opening of the program is slower, but after that I have seen no problems.
Oh yes and the tabbrowser extensions can let you do want you want mcs328.

Mouse Gestures isn't an option son setup btw, it's an extension. at least if it's the one i'm thinking of!
