internet problem .. help

hey
my internet is acting all wierd.. i can sign in msn yahoo .. but when i use IE or opera i cant surf the web.. the only way i can is to go thru a proxy in internet explorer. what can the problem be ?

Where are you connecting - home? School? Work? What type of connection is it - dial up, broadband, T1? Do you know if it's going through a router? Where did you get the proxy server address - is it one that was assigned to you at (school or work), or just an open one on the internet?

My initial guess is that your DNS server might be the issue, but need a little more info.
