at least that's what i think it is.

for one site i go to i have to use IE (normally i use firefox). occassionally when i go to this site and click a link, another page comes up that says, "Please wait while we load your ad or click continue to go to your page". regardless of whether i wait or click IE starts spawining window after window. hundreds of them.

using task manger i kill IE and go back to the site and it works perfectly.

adaware and AVG certify my box to be virus/spyware free.

any ideas/suggestions?

Did you use Spybot Search and Destroy?

I encountered something similar yesterday. Mine actually occured while I was surfing GotApex, although I do not believe they were the cause. A post was taking a long time to open, so I tried to click on another and nothing- it was sitting there. So I tried to hit my back arrow to get out of it and suddenly I had hundreds of windows popping up- nothing on them, just oppening and closing, but several on the screen at a time. I had recieved notice of a new network connection from my Norton Firewall a bit earlier but the notice was gone before I could read it. I turned off my modem immediately and kept clicking on "Close" and eventually got the windows closed. Then I cleared all my internet files from my drive and ran AdAware and Spybot and also Norton Antivirus. Nothing was found. I have just started to reuse my computer since then, but do not notice anything so far. Earlier I had tried to download Windows Media Player 10 and when I tried to open that file, all the writing was in Greek! I tried to download it again and got the same thing. Don't know if any of this was related or not, but it was a strange day for my computer! So far, things seem OK today.

think youre savvy enough to figure out whats in your system and what SHOULDNT be? try HijackThis. ive known about it, but never tried it until a friend recommended it to me.

thing is, its a double-edged sword.
it lists pretty much anything that can affect your browser. and i mean EVERYTHING, including the good ones and the ones that are needed to run IE. so if you load this program, DONT start deleting everything, or dont even start deleting ANYTHING yet. scrutinize every item. this is where your computer saviness comes in. you have to know what is vital to IE and what is truly spyware.

cuz if you delete the wrong file(s), you may end up with an inoperable OS.
