SHANGHAI (Reuters) - Breast implants are becoming more and more popular with a surprising group of Shanghai citizens -- men.

The Shanghai Daily said Wednesday that most of the male patients seeking implants in China's financial hub wanted to impress women, or clients, or in some cases their boss.

The implants are similar to those used by women, but they are shaped differently and are stiffer.

Doctors warn that the surgery has certain risks and people with allergies or heart problems should find another way to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger, the newspaper said.

"To be frank, surgery is unnecessary," Liu Chunlong, from the Shanghai Ren'ai Hospital, was quoted as saying.

"Physical exercise can create the same effect and it is safer."

He said the hospital had received 40 patients this year and operated on 10, compared with just two or three such operations last year.

He said many of the patients had psychological problems.

"They ascribe the unhappiness in their lives to their weak muscles," he was quoted as saying.

"The surgery, in some instances, serves as psychological therapy."

Yeah... Getting pecs isn't that hard, surgery for that is retarded. Shoot, give yourself a month on a bench with incrementally increased weights.

I thought you were talking about the guy who got boobs because his friend be that he wouldn't.

I've been working out for 3 years, and i still can't get where i wanna get.
i max out at 295lbs on the bench, and yet still i can't get what i want. Genetics play a very important part of the building process

I can understand a girl being self-conscious and getting implants (although I never would) because we all know what kind of focus those feminine appendages get... however as long as a guy doesn't have saggy boobs (ie. the guy from Fight Club) I think its safe to say nobody would really notice or care...

I mean... when a girl starts gushing about a guy, I've heard about hair, face, abs, biceps, butt... but not really that much about a guy's pecs...

I have to say there is no substitute for the fruits of actual excercise!

yes there is, girls are like rocks.... you skip the flat ones ;) plus you can't grow boobs from exercise. As for the guys pecs, women do dig them, especially when dancing girls always go for the chest, always!

Gynecomastia is not very fun at all - when men grow breasts due to hormonal imbalance.

EDIT: Just for people's information, about 10% of men have this condition to varying degrees. I personally knew someone who had to have reduction surgery in high school to try and get rid of them. Unfortunately, one grew partially back because they didn't get all the breast tissue the first time so he had to have a second surgery. And no, he wasn't a big fatty either.

Genetics does play a role, but if you're looking for muscle definition, you need to vary your workout. Also, do some cardio. NFL lineman are jacked, but you usually can't tell until they drop the pounds after they stop playing.

Still, no amount of working out will change your genetics.

I'm trying to remember pictures of you and from what I remember, you are not a small guy. You look like you're in good shape. The question is how much of it is your genetics and how much of it is you having extremely hard possibly unrealistic expectations? Not trying to rag on you... you have your opinions and to you they are important, just thought I'd raise the question.

no yopu're right i'm not a small guy, and i am in good shape, everyone remembers the velour pants picture.. :)

but there are certain things i can not accomplish due to genetics, no matter what i do.

Btw arnold could not get lower pecs he had to get implants, genetics... sometimes you are screwed.

I don't believe i have unrealistic expectations

This is just sad. With all these plastic surgeries, I keep wondering when I'm going to run into a married couple and their legitimate children that look nothing like either parent. I'd say something like, "Hey, Jr. Has your ears, but it's going to take a few operations to get your man boobs."

Speaking of moobs... Go work out you lazy sissy la la's.

there already IS such a thing as a penile implant. actually there are a couple.

theres the one that FATTENS the penis.
then theres the Pearl implant. or implantS. which basically puts a pearl (or a bead) along the top length of the penis, and shows as a bump or stud. supposedly makes sex better for the woman. those who have had it sometimes add more pearls/beads for a "more studded feel".

this practice has been around for decades now, popular among asian and south american cultures.

Yes I did see that and the whole time I was thinking about the person I knew with it. He was the son of someone my mom worked with at her hospital and I met him a couple times. My mom told me he really had a problem with them because they really were breasts, not just fatty man-boobs.
