ugg. i took a 4-hour boatride to an island this weekend. the boat ride there wasn't bad; we were in a larger ferry that also accomodates cars. but man, the ride back was terrible. bigger waves for the first 2 hours made us go up and down, side to side. hardly any walking space (we weren;t allowed to go outside), and really annoying traditional korean music playing on tv (imagine women wailing). i got back almost 3 hours ago and my head still feels like i'm on the boat. ugg.

I went Whale Watching for my biology class a while ago, and I got really sea sick. :puke: No less than 5 min out of the harbor, I was hanging off the back of the boat with 3 of my friends. Thank goodness the girl who drove us didn't get sick. We went out about 40 minutes and didn't see a whale, on the way back some lady yells, "I see one!!" and they stop the boat. Much to my dismay. I wanted to push the lady overboard. There was never any whale she was seeing things. It was like the worst drunken hangover I ever had.

I spend a lot of time on boats, and never get seasick - EXCEPT one time when I was on a cruise for my honeymoon. Dunno what was different about that time, but for several hours in fairly rough waters I just felt like crap. I didn't launch my dinner, thank goodness, but it wasn't a happy time for me.

But traditional Korean music called pansori basically is all that it entails. At least you weren't stuck listening to some Shaman witch's mantra, though pansori comes pretty dang close.

I always thought I was immune to sea-sickness, until I took a ferry to Martha's Vineyard during a storm. The trip supposed to take something like 45 minutes, so I just kept watching the clock and holding back the nausea. At the 45 minute mark, there was still no land in sight, so I went to the bathroom and lost my lunch.
I'd say about half the people on the boat were tossing their cookies into every garbage can and bathroom available.
I think the difference for me on this trip was that I was with my newborn (2 month old) baby. He was in his stroller and was sleeping "like a baby" the whole time, but the boat was rocking so powerfully that I had a death grip on the stroller for fear that it would slide away. My worry for him must have affected my normal sea-sickness immunity.

I have never been seasick, but I have been in very rough seas (10-20') and did get a little queasy. After that rough 8 hour ride through the Irish Sea, I still felt like I was on that ferry for another 2 days.
