I was offered a retail copy of Win XP Pro SP1 for $100. Is it worth it?

WinXP Pro usually costs about that. On sale, you can get it for around $80. Beware of the companies that ship out of Eastern Europe, because they will advertise it for around $50, but it will be a different language, the corporate version (or blatant piracy).

If you need WinXP Pro *now*, it's not a bad deal. Not a great one either.

Well, didnt realize people actually paid money for legit copies of the software. (I am completly legal with mine, just didnt have to pay)

The only time I saw it for $80 was for an upgrade. This is supposed to be a full install.
Thanks for the buyer beware tips.

I suppose I'm not as resourceful as "look ma". The closest to free I ever got was what came w/my laptop. Care to enlighten me?

Retail prices:

XP Home upgrade: $100
XP Home full package: $200

XP Pro upgrade: $175
XP Pro full package: $300

So yes, a full retail package of XP Pro is a great deal at $100. You can probably find something cheaper from ebay, but it'll likely be an OEM or NFR copy.

It'd be cheaper if you go buy a windows xp pro OEM license, available for at most, 70 bucks. It's a piece of hard paper but that gives you the legal right to run windows xp on one computer. As for obtaining the cd, ask a friend or something.
