View Full Version : Advice on keeping or selling a new iPod
So a 4th Gen 20GB Apple iPod came in recently, and I need help figuring out what to do with it, unfortunately :(
I have a cell phone that plays MP3's, and I'd have to buy a $35 memory card with it for 128MB of songs. Now I know that's not 20GB, but I only need about a couple hours of music each day.
If I sell it, I looked on eBay and they go for about $275, unopened. However, after my first (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79439&highlight=ebay) and second (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79557) eBay experiences went awry, I don't feel too comfortable selling on there.
I mean, I'd love to have 20GB of music in the form of a sleek iPod, especially since it was free, but it's a question of what to do with it.. gahhhh, I'm not giving anyone much to work with here to help, I know.
As cool as it would be to keep this, there are other things I need more, like 512MB more for my laptop, which half of the iPod money could pay for.
So I guess, if you got something like this for free that would be cool to have, but you didn't need, would you keep it or sell it?
Sell it here on the For Sale/Trade forums. I'm sure there will be somebody willing to buy it.

something to keep in mind, xmas is around the corner....

I think (hopefully) I'm at the financial valley of my life right now, and if I had a job, this would be a great gift for someone, but money's tight :(
Points for keeping it:
+ My phone's MP3 controls are so clumsy
+ Limited space on my phone for music
+ I can hook it up to my car CD player's AUX in for trips
Points for selling it:
- I really only need enough music for a workout/jog
- I need the money to buy laptop RAM and other things

Keep it.
I bought my Dell DJ 15GB for a good price ($139.01) and I wanted to sell it on ebay but I don't make much out of it. I keep this and hook it up with one of my older set of speakers so I could play music in my bedroom.

sorry, didn't make my point clear.
what i meant was that since xmas was around the corner, you might want to hold onto it a while longer before you sell it b/c ppl will be looking to do some xmas shopping.

If you need the money badly, sell it.

I agree w/ gear. Since you need money, sell it either here in the for sale/trade forums or on craigslist, since you dont' want to go with ebay. In all reality, do you REALLY NEED 20gigs of music in your bedroom (not trying to talk down on bachviet) but think necessity over luxury.
Go get the ram you need and if you want another mp3 player, just get the 512 muvo from creative. Haha, it'll give you 512 mp3 player and the ram, of which you need more.

Then I have to use my computer every time I want to listen to music. I don't have a CD player and I don't own that many CDs. Anyway you can't beat the $139 for a 15GB mp3 player.

sounds like a perfect white elephant gift. :heh:
I'm going to give my friend a 6 pack of brewskies for selling this for me on eBay, since he has a much higher feedback and experience selling... suckers on there are paying up to $325 shipped for new ones :wow: ... I'll put it on FS/T forum, but I honestly don't expect many people (we ARE on a deals site :P) to bite, if not anyone.
The cable bill and electricity bill came in today, so that sealed the deal!
Hoping to get:
- 512MB SODIMM RAM ($110)
- 128MB TransFlash card for my phone for MP3's ($35)
- $70 in bills this month :(
- about $60-$80 in spending money :)
Thanks for the advice... I appreciate it!

Did you get this by going to SPAM forum and sending emails to all of your friends!

Nope, it was the freeipods site... no sending emails to my friends, just getting them to try out Blockbuster online or infone for free basically... none of my referrals lost any money on it, I gained :D
