View Full Version : What foods do you find disgusting?

In general, every person will have some food that they just cant stomach. Sometimes, these food choices are for good reason, othertimes everyone in the world thinks you are a freak. What foods cant you stand and why?

As for me:
I wont eat Rice or Pasta (excluding Lasagna and macaroni and cheese). I find them both utterly disgusting and avoid them at all costs. Yes, I HATE spagetti!

I also dont like chinese food. -- the rice comes into play here, although I will eat the spare ribs and certain true chinese foods (not american chinese) such as beef and chinese stringbeans.

I have a lot of other food weirdness things, but those are the major hallmarks.
The even weirder thing is I will try almost anything at least once so I have eaten some "weirder" items.

Other oddities: I only eat 5 types of fish, I wont eat brocolli stems, I cant stand pulp, I dont like water and avoid it at all costs, eggs make me gag on their own but I can eat them in things, and the list goes on at nauseum.

I can not eat eggs, I won't cook them or eat anything that touched them just the smell makes me want to gag

My old roomie wouldn't even go near you if you ate a hardboiled egg... to torture him, we put a shelled hardboiled egg underneath his pillow... he was very... :puke:

i don't like lettuce at all unless it's romaine (in other words, limp :P). i absolutely hate it when they put ugly, wet iceberg lettuce under other foods. am i supposed to eat that lettuce? no, so should i just take a picture? then get it the hell off my plate already. i usually will remove it as soon as it's served so the food won't have the "taste" on it.

dislikes: broccoli, cooked green peppers (the smell even nauseates me), meatballs, scallions (yes they do have a taste), many more.
i'm picky about food and have yet to try many things, including mayonnaise and a complete tomato, making it hard to order many foods that include any tomato (yet i can eat red sauce and salsa). people can't understand why i won't simply try stuff; it just scares me, either because of the smell or texture it looks. although, i tried my first olive yesterday and liked it.

I honestly prefer fish to meat. I absolutely love fish and seafood. The best tasting fish are those I have just caught myself. :)

Thanks to growing up in central/northern California, I love vegetables. There is nothing like having farm-fresh vegetables that were harvested that day. I do not like Brussel Sprouts. I have tried them many times and I will eat them if I need to, but I don't like their taste.

I like to eat foods from many cultures and in doing so I have learned that I don't like a lot of Indian and Thai food dishes. I like some curry-style dishes, but there are other Indian and Thai dishes that my stomach just doesn't like at all.

Seafood of any kind (can't stand the smell), liver, squash (gross!), broccoli. Those are the big ones.

Reheating fish in the microwave should be punishable by law. GAWDS what a stench...

Seafood, mayo, relish (and yet, I'll only eat thousand island dressing), mushrooms, 98% of veggies(the people too :P)

I'm sure there is more. I don't really like trying new foods. If I go out someone, and can't tell immediately what in it, I don't want it.

DarkFury

Wow... you guys sure hate alot of stuff. :)

Personally, I eat most foods with no problems, except for the stuff that gives me problems (like raw onions, bleu cheese and ranch dressings)

For me, texture of foods has more to do with many of my dislikes... I like french fries and hashbrowns, but I dislike mashed potatoes. I like carrots in stews and mixed in with other dishes or in mixed vegetables, but I won't eat raw carrots/carrot sticks.

Pretty much it is all about the seasonings for me... I honestly used to hate baked pork chops... but fry one of those bad boys up and don't call me late for dinner. Same thing goes for baked versus fried chicken. :lick:

Pretty much the only foods I really dislike are most of the deeper "Soul Food" meals... Liver, Greens, Squash, Chitlins, and the parts of animals that were typically "throwaways" back in the "old days" (chicken necks and backs, souse, pig feet and ears, snout, neckbones, etc...) Maybe that came from being forced to eat meals like that when I was a kid... and now they are psychologically imprinted on me.

As far as "standard fare", I like just about anything... Chinese, Italian, Mexican (though some of it doesn't like me all that much...). I love seafood (except for scallops and oysters) and a nice thick porterhouse steak is my best friend. :lick:

Aiight... enough talk about all of this, I'm startin' to get hongry...

For me, I can eat any texture of foods. The taste gets me. I guess I don't like really sour stuff, and odd stuff like liver, other odd meat parts, but I love food and would eat anything (except humans)

Oh also odd animals like snake, dog, scorpion...

dang we got some picky eaters here. i used to be one as a kid, but as i've grown up and learned to cook, i've found that I like almost every food if it is prepared right. I used to hate onions, now i love them in my cooking. i actually forced myself to like tomatoes. i figured since they're everywhere I should start liking them and I slowly incorporated them into sandwiches and salads. no i love tomatoes.

i will try any food once and if i dislike it, so be it. i am looking forward to trying all kinds of meat. Snake, dog, guinea pig, etc. It's meat. It's just as arbitrary as eating a cow or a pig.

I love veggies now. Used to hate them, but now I don't really cook much meat at home. This past Saturday I made a dish with sauteed eggplant, okra, ****ake mushrooms, tomato, and parmesan. damn it was good. i finally finished it last night and i already want more. the sweetness of the eggplant and the tomato with the tangy mushrooms was awesome.

oh, and I love fish with asparagus on the side.

ill try it once, and if i dont like it, ill probably try it again. if on the 2nd time i still dont like it, then there wont be a 3rd time.
its like this food prepared by an uncle of mine when i was a kid - i gagged when i smelt it and tasted it. funny thing was, 3 years later, he cooked the same food, and i actually liked it that time.

probably the most disgusting food for me, things that i certainly can NOT stomach literally, is McDonalds crap.
EVERY friekin thing on their menu gives me heartburn, or makes me feel queasy an hour after i eat it. fries, burgers, sodas, you name it. anything from mcdonalds just does me in. never fails. i dunno why. wendy's, burger king, and other fast food joints dont do it to me. just Mcdonalds.

:stupid: that's pretty much my list. except i like pickles, but no other pickled items. for me, it's the texture. i don't like seafood cuz it always feels slightly rubbery. i won't eat onions cuz biting into one is enough to make me sick and i'll refuse to touch the rest of my food. but i'm okay with onion flavor, so if the food uses onion powder, or has cooked the onions beyond recognition, i'm okay.

Graf's family (they're South African) is always trying to feed me new stuff. which is...umm... interesting...mainly cuz it's so meat-centric, and i'm not a huge meat fan. they fed me this one dish and i had to fight hard to keep from throwing up. know that odd fat-jello stuff that congeals on the meat? take that, shove chunkies in it, and voila, that's what his mum fed me.

I don't eat onions or tomatoes (but I will eat tomato sauce as long as it is smooth - no chunks; and even tomato juice on occasion)...

I don't do most red, green, or yellow peppers but I like a little sliced or chopped banana pepper as a pizza or sandwich topping now and then.

A pickle on the side is fine, and relish (Mt Olive, please) on a hot dog (Oscar Meyer, all-beef, burned on the grill on a toasted Sara Lee or Pepperidge Farm hotdog bun) is cool, but no pickles on my sandwiches as a rule.

Salads are alright, following the above, no broccoli or brussels sprouts. No raw veggies in general. Canned, mushy asparagus is cool, but I hate fresh.

Eggs are OK, prefer hard fried or hard scrambled, or an omelet. No runny eggs.

Cooked mushrooms are fine but no raw ones.

No peas, but blackeyes, crowder peas and butterbeans/limas are OK. I love green beans, but don't you dare put onions in them. Cook 'em with a little chunk of fatback and some black pepper for flavor.

No beef liver, but fried chicken livers are edible to me. (My cracker roots showing...) No other organ meat, no brains, tripe, or chitlins. Pork rinds are a savior when on Adkins.

Any and all fish and or seafood, sushi, escargot, is fine, Any fowl is fine. Venison rocks when properly prepared (tho I am not and have never been a hunter)...

As a kid I went through 5 gallons of milk per week. now I am down to 2 gallons per week, but I think its because I am not at home as much as when I was a kid. I don't really drink water, I usually just drink milk. Milk and beer and the occasional soda at a restaurant are my beverages of choice.

Growing up in the country there was NOTHING we wouldn't eat. If mom cooked it, we ate it. We ate every part of a pig but the squeal. Every time I get the chance to try a new dish... BRING IT ON!!
