I signed up for an account with Pacific Poker last night to take advantage of their free poker chips offer and instead of playing my 250 raked hands at the low bet tables, I decided to check out some of their "Sit-and-go" tournament tables.

We started with 5 players at the table with a $5.50 buy-in (equivalent of $800 in chips to start) and it took about 30 minutes to knock out 3 players. It was between me and this other guy who had been dominating all night long. I had about $1000 in chips, and he had the other $3000.

So, we play for another 30 minutes going back in forth with bigger and bigger bets/raises and we come to a point where we're about even. Then, out of nowhere, he sends a chat message and we have this conversation:

Him: "Hey dude, could you stop folding and bet more? I have to go"
Me: "Why should I bet MONEY because you have to leave? That's not my problem."
Him: "My mother just yelled at me. I have to go to sleep now"
Me: "Well, why don't you just fold every hand then?"
Him: "Oh, okay. I will do that"

Woot!

I won $12.50 for winning the table.

I played another tournament later in the evening and came in 2nd place. That got me $7.50

I think I'm going to try and win one of their "satellite" tournaments tonight. If I can place in the top 4 of any one of them, I will automatically receive entry into Pacific Poker's $150K Hold 'Em tournament in November.

Nice, I am not sure why the kid didn't start going all in whenever he had a high card. If he has to go, just go all in every hand till you call or till he buys all your blinds.

Placed 74th out of 116 tonight. Oh well. Lost my buy-in of $5.50. There's always tomorrow night's qualifier.

I personally prefer cash games, but as a learner tournaments can be easier and you get more bang for your buck.

So, I just entered another one of their qualifying tournaments and this time I bought in with $11. 24 total players signed up and after 2.5 hours of playing, I just finished in 3rd!! I won $40, but the ss about this is that if I had finished in 1st or 2nd, I would have qualified for the $150K tournament in 2 weeks. I guess I can play another 3 qualifiers with the money I won :)

Sigh. Finished 4th out of 32 tonight. Didn't win anything. Good thing I had won my $11 buyin 30 minutes prior to entering.

Tournaments are really a great way to learn how to play, cause you can buy in for a tiny bit of money and everybody starts off the same and plays serious. Keep it up ray, seems like you are always near the top which is good.

I can't play anything lower then 1/2$ NL now which is nice, but sucks cause the nightly swings are bigger.

I finished 8th in that tournament and only because I went and pulled a bonehead play.
