Best place for a young man to be :P There are few other places in the world that accomodate free breeding like a dorm does.

Glad to hear that you are loving your living situation.
Am I the only person who absolutely hated living in a dorm? I lived in 3 different dorms in my first 3 semesters before I quickly got into an apartment. Hell, I would have been out sooner but the damn housing department wouldnt let me break my lease after letting 2 of my roommates out.
University of Florida had this lovely policy that totally screwed me over in terms of dorm selection. Since I chose to start early, I wasnt considered a freshman when the regular year started. (I had been there for a semester...ergo, I wasnt fresh blood) As such, I was the lowest of low on the totem pole and was stuck in a "temporary triple" Which was where you were 3 people in a 2 person room waiting for other rooms to open up, which didnt occur at a frequency to make such accomodations nice. When I finally transfered rooms, I was put in a permanent triple which became a single...until two of my friends who hated their roommates asked if they could switch to my room. I said sure, and suddenly was back to a fully occupied triple. (If I said no, I could have had a stranger put in if the need arose although at that point in the semester it was unlikely to occur.)
It probably didnt help that I had 7 different roommates who I hated in that time. 1, the first room. 2, in the temporary triple 2, in the permanent triple and then my 2 "friends" and I quickly became on bad terms once they moved in. It probably didnt help that the one guy wouldnt get out of bed and was constantly sleeping...which doesnt work with someone who is up all the time, always listening to music/online or having people over.
And for anyone who says, 7 roommates, it has to be you that is the problem. 5 of the problem roommates were considered to be a-holes by everyone I knew. The other 2, it was a mixed bag, as we had been friends but came from such different backgrounds/habits that it was a recipie for disaster.
I'm glad you are enjoying it Yoss, but I think I'd be more inclined to be like UFC, and hate it! I need my space and privacy.

dorm life is great. my roomates and i had major beef with each other my first year. 2nd year was much better.
enjoy! it's only the beginning of the year! :)
You should be forewarned that if 2nd year in the dorms are not as fun unfortunately. :(
I lived on campus in 2 dorms my second year (couldn't stand first roommate, moved out), and quickly got into an apartment after that. I take back what I said about free breeding in dorms... once you have your own room, MAD GIRLS :P

ski, my roomate and i have an agreement, if something is under the door, return in an hour. it works very well
We all had whiteboards on our doors, and a keyword was written on it as our signal ;)

whiteboards have a habit of having bad things written on them, and we all know the keyword for one kid, so we erase it, and let his roomie walk in :hehehmm:

I live on my own in a effeciancy. Before that I lived in a house with 2 other roommates. I really just dont like having roommates and find it worth it paying a little extra to not have to deal with it.

Well, I'll say this...
Out of all the folks that I have met in my life and in my travels... the ones that I made friends with as a freshman in the dorms continue to be the lifelong buddies that I have continued to have a lasting relationship with. Those guys are my "brothers from another mother". I'd trust them with my life pretty much (and that is speaking volumes).
I guess in a way, they are my version of "Ol' Army Buddies"... we've seen each other at our worst and at our best... and pretty much we can count on each other forever. And to think... I would have NEVER met any of them (being that most of them were of different majors and generally they came from different social circles than I came from) had we not been roomies and hallmates in the dorms.
Oh the adventures we've had... :D Great memories there... :D
