i don't think i've ever seen a malnurished person in america. on the streets or in the projects.

i've seen photos of malnurished people. yeah. it's terrible.

i met a young boy the other day who looked like he was 11. but due to malnutrition as a younger child, he growth was stunted; he's currently 15. seeing a case like this first-hand is definitely much different. and this boy is just one case of millions. *sigh*

I remember George Carlin's stand up act when he mentioned anorexics. It was one of his first routines concerning politics and social issues. Oh, man was he ever mad.

It sucks, we throw away and waste so much food, while others are starving. :(

i'm glad that this thread isn't about you being malnourished cuz you haven't been eating w/all the crap that's been thrown at you lately. that's what i thought i was going to find.

Its even worse than that. We subsidize farms to grow a specific amount of food so that the economy doesnt fluctuate, however, all the excess wheat etc gets taken by the government to silos and just rots. We could easily use that for humanitarian needs, in our own country or others but for some reason we dont.

it does on occasion, but not as much as the public would like.

i grew up on farms ;)

one reason we don't send it elsewhere is because of the costs. one thing that my community does that is awesome is that people on food stamps get other stamps that they can redeem for fresh produce at the local farmer's markets. that imho, is just awesome.
