My wife and I bought 2 huge bags of candy from Costco figuring that we would be run over by little kids since we see them all around here. We set out a jack o'lantern, had the bowl ready and waited. And waited....and waited. At 8:15 we had out first and only person. He was a mexican teenager by himself. Where did all the kids go?!? Damn, now we have all this damn candy leftover. Time to get fat. :(

i guess trick or treating is a dying pasttime. my mom usually gets over 100 kids and it keeps getting less and less each year. tonite we counted about 60.

i wonder if it's because of safety concerns or if kids just aren't into it as much.

yeah I got two waves of kids here. The first wave was a group of roughly 7 kids and then the second was a group of older kids, ten I think.....

Well I live in a house that is in a cul de Sac and away from the normal or regular neighborhoods.... maybe that's why.....

A lot of places are sponsoring Halloween events. Like we went out on Friday night to our church and another church in the neighborhood (had it at a park). Our church had some trunk or treating (people decorate their trunks of their vehicles and hand out candy that way. Then inside they rented 1 huge and 2 smaller moonwalk things (the huge one had a really great slide inside & everything. Josh LOVED it!) plus had all sorts of games & stuff set up where you could "win" candy & prizes. The other church had games like ring toss, face painting, etc where you won candy & prizes.

So since it was rather cool this evening, we just decided that we'd had enough Halloween on Friday. *shrug* I bet it's happening more and more everywhere, for safety reasons if nothing else.

It doesn't help that it was on a Sunday, which seems to be worse than a regular schoolnight. Here in Columbia, where I am for college, they seemed to have tried to make Saturday the day for trick or treating but that didn't really happen for most. Plus it was raining here. Not good combinations.

yeah, i think parents, especially of little kids, feel safer taking their kids to malls or wherever for halloween events... i did that once with eg, NEVER AGAIN. it's like, hey, lets get a few hundred 2-6 year olds together and MAKE THEM WAIT IN 10MINUTE LINES to play a stupid game and get a freakin tootsie roll. and then, the toy store was open, but the people looked pissed when kids went inside it.... i don't know wtf was up with that.

there aren't too many kids out in our neighborhood... it's an inaccessible neighborhood, tho, and 1/2-3/4 of the residents are retirees. so our kids generally get huge fistfuls of candy, especially since it's from 5-7 pm, we take them out at about 6:15-6:45, and people just want to get rid of all their candy...

my dork friends stayed at my house while we were out with the ewoks and anakin, and got two groups of trickortreaters (even tho we had all our lights off) and they gave out ridiuculous amounts of candy to some very thrilled 12-year-olds...

Around here, the wards all do trunk-or-treating, where each family decorates the trunk of their car. They then all park in the parking lot and hand out candy to all the kids.

All I got this year was grabby greedy teenagers.

My dad got alot of kids but I think that was due to the fact that some of our city did halloween on Saturday and some still Sunday so alot of people went twice, I read in our local paper here that this womean was tried of seeing teenagers trick or treating so she has 2 bowls one with good stuff for the little kdis and one with cough drops for the older kids

that's awesome... for sh**heads, anyway.

i dunno, so long as they're in costume and not being turds about it, i'd be happy enough to give candy to teenagers... they are still kids, you know

We had so many visitors last night in our new neighborhood and we ran out of candies. :(

The days of trick-or-treating at every random house in the neighborhood are gone. Parents typically take their kids to the mall, and then only to the homes of people they know.

I was so excited to have my first Halloween where I owned a house, and we didn't get a single trick-or-treater! :(

We live out in a rural area, so there usually aren't more then a couple of dozen kids and most are driven in cars, tractors, or even riding mowers.

Last year though we only had a single kid and this year not even that. I really don't know what's up with that.

I saw some in our neighborhood last night. We have stopped handing out candy, we got tired of having teens without costumes coming to the door.

Ya..that is pretty lame.
I would say in total, we had about 30 kids. WAY less than last year..which doesn't break my heart :)

Geez, not in my neighborhood. We must have gotten 150-200 kids coming to the door, and my 7 year old made it to about 40 or 50 houses before she had to call it a night. It was a good success, but now I have about 10 pounds of candy to slowly get rid of. (The kids get the good stuff, but I take the majority of it to work to get it out of the house.)

Man it Trick or Treating has changed or evolved since I was a kid. I use to walk the Neighborhood and get a gang of candy. As I got older I saw that it became a science with the parents.....(maybe to keep it fun for them). They would hit all of the richer areas so they get more candy.... before it was just a walkin' thing... now it is a load up the SUV/MiniVan thing....I miss the good ol' Days....

An idea for the left over chocolates...freeze them and use them in cookies, etc throughout the year.

hahaha, or maybe the rising obesity rates have something to do with it... all the fat kids stay home and eat that trick - or - treater candies that their parents buy... i mean why burn a few calories walking around the block when you can just pig out at home? I know this sounds harsh, but seriously, I think kids are just getting to be plain lazy and fat... the fact that I am an adult and a medium in kid sizes is too big for me says a lot about how big these kids are gettin!

nope, not tiny at all.... on the contrary, pretty normal, i think: 5'4", 110lbs, 34C... i was just at Old Navy the other day, and tried on a children's medium and it was too big - tried looking for a small, but they were all out

As I said, I just find it very sad that Trick or treating is slowly disappearing. We were actually at the mall earlier in the day and there were only a few kids there. From my perspective, the left coast seems to be even less into halloween that the east coast. I know that we still had droves of kids coming to the door when we were back east.

Honestly, its pathetic. I am used to seeing hundreds of kids walking door to door. The first time I saw a parent driving the kids around I was floored. I can understand if they are really young, but these kids were probably in fourth grade or so. The fact that we only got 1 teenager dressed in his soccer uniform (real imaginative  ) just annoys me.

I remember the first time they claimed someone stuck a razor blade in candy and you had to start checking each and every piece. As that rumor stuck and the years progressed, the hospitals began to x-ray the candy for the kids. A while ago, I remember that a Tv show researched it and never found a single instance where it really occurred. They had a specialist on in urban legends who explained it was just another way of trying to indoctrinate the fear of strangers and taking things from them, into children.

I talked to some people I know who live in neighborhoods with kids and they said they only got a total of like 20 children as well. I was surprised. I loved Halloween and when I went out the streets would be filled with hundreds of kids, EVERYONE went out to trick or treat. Kinda sad these stupid freaked out parents are taking their kids to cheesy malls and events so they don't have to go "waste" their evening with their children.

Yay for petite chicks.

I remember hearing stories from my friends whose parents would drive the to Beverly Hills to trick-or-treat and they'd get cash instead of candy.
