View Full Version : Is Cool n' Quiet on Athlon64 board supposed to stop HSF?
My heatsink fan is NOT spinning on my Athlon64. I just noticed this and I've been playing on the machine for a few days, even long sessions of intense 3D gaming. I know it used to spin when I first built it this past weekend. I have since set the Cool n' quiet option in BIOS to enabled though. Is this supposed to stop the fan from spinning when not needed? If not I hope I haven't burned up my CPU!

Can you check your CPU temperature and see if it is getting hot?
It was getting high...around 55 as I last saw. I don't like it going over 40. Right now I just downloaded Prime95 and ran the CPU test (Small FFT) and the fan turned on as soon as I started it. Perhaps it's a motherboard feature, I don't know, but i turned Cool n Quiet OFF, it shouldn't be doing this.

Yes, CnQ WILL stop your CPU fan from turning if it is not needed...freaked me out the first time I noticed it. I disabled it as well for the short time I was air-cooling it before my water-cooling kit got here.
There's something just not right about a CPU fan not spinning :P

There should be a way to set the temperature depending on the motherboard.
