OfficeDepot has an unadvertised $20 rebate on this product 11/07/04 through 11/13/04. You’ll have to go to their rebate center and choose “Microsoft” as the manufacturer to get the rebate form. You’ll also need a $20 off $100 coupon (e.g. 17998794 [Exp 11/13] from Gatorguy8 at the “Chubby Billfold” site, with our thanks, other codes available). And since Windows XP is $99.99, you’ll have to add a cheap item like the paperclips for 21¢.
$99.99 – 20 MIR – 20 coupon = $59.99 + tax with FREE shipping.

You can get copies of XP home full version for around $60 each.
This is not much of a deal.

Obviously you know little of what you speak. An upgrade version IS a full version, but it checks for a previous license. It has ALL of the operating system files of the full version. If one attempts to install it to clean hard drive, it merely asks you to you to insert a previous version’s CD into drive for verification without copying any of the old version’s files. You also have the option of copying over a previous OS without overwriting non-OS files saved on the drive, or overwriting the hard drive for a fresh install, or even creating a dual boot system.
Some OEM versions come with only a CD and key. No manuals, no support, no legal transferability to another computer, and perhaps no legal upgradablity to the next OS with a reduced price upgrade version. All of these add value to a product. Other considerations are merchant reputation, requirements to purchase other hardware, S&H, etc. You have merely alluded to (with out a link) a “somewhat similar” price with NO details on a “somewhat similar” product.
If you have a better price on an identical item, please post it. We’d all like to save a few bucks. If you have a markedly better price on an OEM version, we’d love to see that as well.

Actually This is a good deal because if you buy OEM its around $60 and its the same price and this is a Retail one and so a RETAIL is always better than OEM...
