I noticed last night that something wasn't right with the keyhole on the door lock of my car. I examined it, and the entire slot insert fell into my hand. Evidently someone tried to pull my lock cylinder with a screwdriver and only managed to break the keyhole from the cylinder. Not sure if it happened the previous night when I was on call or sometime yesterday. At least they didn't break in, but a new lock will be mucho $$.
Looks like I'm going to remove the cylinder, order a blank piece to replace the keyhole, and hope that my car battery or keyless entry transmitter never fails, as I'll be locked out.
So...since April, it's been keyed, dented, had tire slashed, had tire destroyed while parked by idiotic driver, and now had the lock broken.

Sounds like a good reason to move to me....
(or at least have an enclosed garage to park your car in at night...)

That sucks dude. Wher do you live? What kind of car do you have? Maybe its time to move and get a moped..
Even with the driver's lock busted, couldn't you let yourself in the passenger or backseat doors using the key?

Nope...my car only has one key-lock. No fold-down seats from the trunk either. After I finish this mod, it will look like there never was a key lock.
I live in a decent neighborhood, but it is a relatively high-crime city. Insurance is pretty high here, so I'm running high deductables. I do have a nice car, but it's not terribly flashy.
damn, who'd u piss off?!
I don't think I've pissed off anyone. Just bad luck.

So you're removing the key hole on the passenger side? That's pretty neat, but what happens when your battery DOES die or the remote system stops working?

No...the car never had a passengers' key hole. The car only has one door key hole, and it's on the drivers' side (the one that was tampered with). After I remove the cylinder and replace the keyhole with the custom blank piece (already painted to match and pricey, but not nearly as much as a new lock), it will look like it never had a keyhole there. So my car will be keyhole-less except for the trunk.
It's a great deterrent, but if the battery dies, or if the remote battery dies, I'm screwed. The remote transmitters are charged when the keys are in the ignition, so hopefully that won't be an issue. It's probably worth the risk while I live in New Orleans. I can always buy a replacement lock cylinder some day in the future. I will miss the option of closing the windows and sunroof with the key in the door if I forget to close them before leaving the car, but I'll get over it.

You could always go for the selenoids so that it kicks open as well. What type of car is this anyway?
