I just got back from Wal-Mart with a copy, but I don't even have an XBOX! :( Waiting on referrals to get one for free from the link in my sig ;) ANYWAY...
My friend got it as well, and I'm going over to his place in a bit to check it out. Post your thoughts and stories here.

I'm picking mine up in an hour. The store is opening at midnight Pacific time and selling reserved copies.
Goodbye world! Won't be seeing you again for a looooong time.
Man, I hope X-Box Live doesn't overload!
I have the Limited Collector's Edition on hold at EBGames... too bad I probably can't play for a few days because of my programming classes. Oh well.
will be picking my copy up tomorrow at the store.

I picked up my copy last night, f'ing 90min wait for mine even though I preordered in full. Played it for a couple hours last night, it is gooood, great graphics, and a very good story.
I haven't tried the multiplayer with live yet, but I will later, I am just having fun with the campaign mode. I like the dual wielding of guns, that is a very very nice feature.

Picked mine up last night around 2:00 a.m. The line was ridiculous. I didn't pay in full so I had to wait longer, even though I reserved it over a year ago.
Despite that, I think we can all agree that waiting this long has made it all worthwhile.
Online is F'ing perfect. It takes a little getting used to but it allows for great speeds and alot of action without any noticeable lag, even with a "yellow" or "medium" connection.

Not going to spoil any part of the game, but I enjoyed it. Now I will play through it on legendary and heroic. Although I think I will spend more time on live now. It is nice being able to track all your online stats on bungie.com.

i'm playing it through now on heroic. i really like the other character in stead of just mc. we're having a halo 2 party tomorrow night.
It's great. Unloading twin needlers or twin SMGs is a thing of beauty. Grub/Cheap: how did you change the difficulty? Is that only after you play through the campaign on normal? I don't remember ever selecting difficulty.

Does anyone know if you can switch the split screen mode from vertical to horizontal llike it was in HALO 1? Im not sure if it is doing it vertically because I have widescreen, but I hate it, and want to switch to top/bottom split screen. Anyone, anyone?
It's still horizontal (as in 1) for me. Maybe it's your widescreen TV? Don't know how to change it.

instead of choosing "resume", choose "select level", then it'll ask for difficulty choice
Yeah I caught it this second time (choosing where to continue from)... although I can't remember if it presented that option the first time. Thanks fellas.

when you're putting another player in the game w/you, there are four spot he can take. i'm just guessing, but if you take the slot below you instead of beside you, does that make a difference?

The Flood is harder this time around, but I suppose that's better. I like how you work in groups more often this time around and your buddies are actually worth keeping around.
They fight really well and they'll even drive you around on the warthog while you take the machine gun.
Online is taking up most of my time, The best way to play is to host a party and matchmake your games. That way you easily get all the players you need. I'm at level 7.

also, do any of you know if additional maps will be available for download? (it'll be so nice to have the Hang 'Em High map.....)
I was wondering the same thing DFU. It'd be so easy for them to make the classic (Halo 1) maps available, but I somehow doubt they'll be downloadable content.

Just finished it on legendary. Rather disappointed. I thought I still had at least 2 more hours to go when it just suddenly stopped.
That last "Boss" was f@#$ing weak. You just keep popping him from a distance when his shields are down and thats it.
I don't know any more about the Master Chief than when I finished Halo 1. The only time he shows any personality is in his last line when the game ends. All of the background characters had more personality than him, even that annoying glowing golf ball.
I guess online more than makes up for it, plus the graphics. Oh, and the sound is the shiznit too.
Plus the dual wielding, the energy sword, the vehicle hijacking (including the Wraith), the big multiplayer maps... there's a lot to like. I maintain that it's more like Halo 1.6 than Halo 2, but that's still a 10 in my book.

Naw man, a bad ending isn't enough in my book to make it disappointing. In terms of things that can go wrong with a FPS that is at the bottom of the list.
The story really wasn't all that exciting to begin with. It's the flawless design of the game that everyone loves. Every other aspect of this game puts all other FPS's to shame. Especially the online features and level design.
Whatever, they can't all be Metal Gear Solids. As far as being overhyped, The game pretty much sold itself. The fact that 1.5 million people pre-ordered it just underlines the trust people had in the quality of game. I only saw one commercial and one magazine ad since I pre-ordered it over a year ago, they really didn't have to advertise, it was word-of-mouth that built anticipation.

the reason i ask this is just to compare with Doom3 and now Half Life 2.
When doom3 came out, everyone was going nuts on how scary and how great the graphics were, then came the HUUUUUGE backlash on how boring and unoriginal the game was .
halo 2: i seem to get mixed reviews: some saying that halo 2 greatly improves upon halo 1, but really isnt that groundbreaking and claims that the game itself was too short.
now that half life 2 came out, i'm hearing alot of the intial "OH WOW, ITS GREAT!!!" but then theres a bunch of other issues...
o well, we'll see what everyone has to say in a couple of weeks.

I thought that the first Halo sucked in "story mode" or whatever it's called. I thought that the best thing was that it was multiplayer, and that it was incredible fun to kill your friends. Is the story mode in the first one that good? (yep I have never played it)

i'm surprised at how close it is to the first one. i haven't completed it yet, but the story isn't why i like it. it's the multiplayer and online capabilities.

Well, I dunno if you ever play any FPS on the computer... but honestly, FPS was probably the main reason I came to the internet in the first place.... so that I could play some of the FPS games that were out way back then.
And aftwards, I found places like G|A which hooked me into the "information/community" side of the net. :D :thumb:

I do a lot of PC Gaming so I know what you mean. I still play RTCW:ET all the time even though the maps are old, just because of the thrill of capping fools from all over the country. Unfortunately I don't have an Xbox yet so I haven't played Halo, but since people are complaining about the storyline it made me wonder if the best thing was supposed to be the multiplayer, and not the single user story-mode play.

Yeah, as far as the story-mode is concerned I think that's where the game falls short.
But I've been playing X-Box Live since the first day it went online and what they've done with online capabilities on the X-Box truly is groundbreaking.
Most games suffer serious problems when it comes to setting up games and maintaining a reliable connection speed at 16 players. If I had a penny for every time a server crashed during Counter Strike, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six and Unreal, I would no longer be considered unemployed!
On top of that, no other game provides as much variety in gameplay like Halo 2 does. I mean, sometimes you can get pretty overwhelmed with all the options you have when your hosting a party. Your no longer just changing the map and kicking off rowdy players. It's pretty awesome.

Some interesting things that are appearing in the single player is the location of skulls on each level.

Most have been found I believe, there are a couple left. Nobody is really sure what the real meaning besides the effect they have for that level are.

here's my 1 cent. . . on the campaigns. The first was pretty decent, I personally felt that the weapons were a bit generic and the was a bit too predictable, seemed smart at first but just did the same ridiculous thing over and over and over. Plus not to mention that the "flood" just was a big rip off of the half life crabs and what not. Anyhoo Halo 2, I finished last week and I'm still mixed. The new features were interesting, but I thought the weapons again were a bit lacking in creative department, felt like some of them were a direct copy from the UT series. Ending pissed me off really since the game was so short. But usually an ending doesn't bother me its just when it happens. Finally, I realize why I hated it the most, it just felt as others have stated a souped up Halo 1 rather than a new game. Personally I felt mislead, like 70% of the game to me felt like it was back on Halo with the same type of action (albeit the game wouldn't be halo if it weren't on the halo). That first few levels down on mombasa were freaking amazing. And I thought the game was going to take place on earth for most of the part but it wasn't. Everything after that just was sort of a time waste for me.
After saying all of this however. . . I think bungie should just take the path of Unreal and ditch the campaign, they're not very good at it and its stupid. However the multiplayer is where it is at. So addictive and the stats are just overwhelming. Being able to see where you got killed on every map you played by who and what paths you took is just geeky great. So that said. . . its still a decent game helping keep the xbox attractive.
