i jumped in on that Hauppage WinTV-GO a week or 2 ago. it's cool, but i'm not really impressed with the recording of AVI. i would put a lot of it on that i have no idea what i'm doing...or how to use the codec. but i just hate how the time it works ii'll have 10 seconds of AVI that takes up 100+ MB!! good luck trying to record a show.

from hauppage.com, i downloaded some program that supposedly captures it in MPEG format. i just installed it and won't work. called nanoDVR i think . i guess i still have to work on that...

.... so, need recommendations for:

1- any additional PLAYER for a tv tuner card besides the WinTV 2000? like is there a universal player out there?

2 - might be combined with 1, but what are decent / good programs out there that are compatible with this card, or most cards, that will capture in any format -- easily?

thanks a whole lot.

thanks for the reply, i downloaded the demo, but i keep on getting an error. i read the readme or the help and had 2 hauppage cards listed (the USB with FM, and some other one), but not mine, so i figure that might be the problem... which sucks. any other suggestions?

If you record an hour long show its going to take up about 2Gig if you set it to near DVD quality. You could then compress it with DivX or something. Give BeyondTV a try at www.snapstream.com. Thats what I use and its reguarded as one of the best by the PC PVR camp. It has a feature where you can have it compress shows after they are done recording so they take up like 1/10 the size, but it does require about 2-3 hours of processing even on my Athlon 64bit setup....

Ok, I just reread your thread. If you are trying to find a program that will save it directly to a compressed format then good luck. Even if the program could do it there is too much overhead on the CPU to capture directly to a format such as DivX. I tried to do it before with PowerVCR, but it never came out right and I was using an Athlon64 3600+ w/ 1024MB....

I dont actual numbers, but even at VHS quality you are still looking at a GB for a full hour. Thats why these PVRs come with such large hard drives. A 70 hour Tivo will contain an 80GB harddrive for example...
