I'm trying to bust a thief at work. I set up a Webcam in the computer room because I'm pretty sure somene has been messing with stuff there and stealing some of my tools. I thought the software came with some motion-detection picture taking software but apparently it doesn't or I can't find it. Anyone know of a good program that will allow me to make the camera take a picture anytime it detects motion? Free preferred.

i don't know of any free 1's. most of them offer it as part of their pay package. But i thought you would also have to have ther motion-detection part, as part of the hardware, in addition to, the software...?

Well in the product description of this cam (Logitech QuickCam 4000) it said motion detection. It's the reason I bought it.

www.trackercam.com

Software works even if you don't have a trackerpod, but it works much better if you do.

Logitech's site and review sites say the QC 4000 should come with it...keep looking. ;)

I bought a program called digiwatcher because I suspected someone coming into my room. It works by anaylzing differences between images it takes and it's over a certain percentage it starts recording. Back then I had an unstable 98se so it worked for a few hours and I think I ran out of memory or something. The program runs in the background but you can only kill the process using task manager. If your webcam has a "light" that turns on maybe you can black it out with a sharpie. You can view it by hitting a certain key combo and a password.

if you have a mac, give evocam a shot. it has a 15 day trial. it helped some university bust some crooks in the same fashion
