View Full Version : Suck: this week just sucked

Man, I got beat up this week. At my job, it's my turn to be on-call on the call center. That means that we work our normal 40+hr week, then if any calls roll over to the voicemail, we get paged and have to return the call within 15 mins. (I'm tech support for an international retail company.)

So far, I've had the pager 6 days and have been paged 96 times in addition to working my normal shifts. Each page takes about 15-45 minutes to resolve or alleviate.

Edit: I'm salary. No overtime for this guy.

Well, on Wednesday, I decide to take the new guy to Penn station for some kick ass subs. (he picked the place.) I drove since I knew where it was. I was pointing out all the places to eat around work on the way there and I said "now, you gotta watch out ahead because there's a speed trap in front of the school and the speed drops from 35 to 30 to 20 in a few seconds. (4 land road with a suicide lane.) So I then return to the conversation and proceed to forget my own advice and as I'm chit chatting to my passenger, I see the school pass by and promptly hit the brakes, only to find out that the one time I go through this area and forget to check my speed, there are two cops gunning radar. So yeah, he pulls me over. I proceed to go through the routine. He asks where we're off to and I tell him I'm taking the new guy to lunch. The smug bastard says "you should have let him drive" in a smart ass tone. So after he takes the license back to the car, I leave with a 36 in a 20 speeding ticket in a school zone. *My first speeding ticket in 6 years.*

I'm worn out from work. I had very little sleep the two nights before because of the fukking pager and the last thing I need is a little lip from a pig in a costume generating revenue for his corrupt little municipality. (I wasn't even speeding at a time when the school had recess. There were no kids outside and the school is tucked back at least 1000 feet from the road.)

So anyway...crappy week. I worked from 6 am to 10 pm tonight and I'm ready to grab a gun and just start firing into marketing.

I don't have anything against that dept....I'm just really fed up.

That sucks bro, your crappy week far tops mine.

Does the pager normally go off that often when anyone else has it?

For the ticket, higher a lawyer, my bro has one that for $300 a ticket all is sadi in done including all fees paid to city/state, fines and the lawyer.

All of the school zone signs in my area are designated "...on school days when children are present". If yours are the same, and no children were present, I'd fight the ticket.

yeh, i remember this from driver's ed. the school is considered in session, and therefore the school speed zone signs must be obeyed, whenever there is someone inside the school or on the school grounds. so even if it's Mr. Janitor working on the weekends, there is someone in school.

Mmm, not for my school zones. Even if they are flashing, but if it is a holiday and no kids are in school, you ignore them... Only if kids have school that day. Maybe it's different in different places?

Our here normally have the times posted for their enforcement (Usually between 7:30 am and 4:30 pm on weekdays)...

Outside of those times, the speed limit goes back to normal.

yeah, the pager has been this busy for months ever since our new point of sale software rollout. There are only 4 of us that are full time on the call center, and we each take a week on call. The past 3 weeks have all had 100+ pages.

The school zone speeds are valid until 6pm in that zone. And since the speed just before it is 30 mph and before that 35, I was still speeding. I just need to hire a lawyer, shut up and be glad my week is over at 8 am tomorrow.

I hope this week is better for you.
