This is really cool. I stared at it for a good 5 minutes to figure it out. Notice in the version with 13 people, everybody is slightly shorter than in the 12 person version. It's basically doing this:

I looked at their feet. Some are whole and some not. And then what VC said.

I also noticed that the "after" people were generally shorter. The thing that is interesting it to me is to count scalps. Notice that in the switch from 12 to 13, the guy on the left loses his scalp. I did a screen capture during the transisiton, and you see 12 scalps "moving", which means they all "and" on someone else at the end.
