I'm kind of thinking perhaps it should be ones you've traveled to or lived in or visited, but if you haven't you can still list why you love those particular states..
here are mine, in the order of affection:
Pennsylvania-Scranton in particular-the old homestead. I still have loads of memories from there, and still have loads of relatives there and in the area..there is nothing like a Scrantonian to make your day-such nice people those coal crackers are..I actually get sad when I go to Scranton and then have to leave to come back to Bingo-town.
Virginia-It's just so historical how can you not love it. All those battlefields to explore, all those creepy haunted feelings you get when you tour the trenches..."shiver"
West Virginia...West Virginia for Christmas is FABULOUS..especially if there is snow..Beautiful scenery..and it reminds me of the Waltons.
..and if I had my choice I would NEVER go to Florida again..too many giant bugs, and too much humidity.Bleh.

1.) New York - because of new york city
2.) California - for the weather, the beaches, and the mountains
3.) Colorado/Wyoming/Utah - for the great national parks
4.) Lousiana - because of new orleans
5.) Michigan - because it's where i grew up
New York - NYC is the best city on earth. The epitome of urban living.
California - Beaches, mountains, cool people - can't go wrong with that
Perhaps a another thread could be states you hate :heh:

North Carolina: We have good weather, defined seasons, beaches & mountains, and you can get real sweet tea. Only real drawback is that it's in the Bible Belt.
Washington: 'cause I really like seattle
1) Minnesota - lakes
2) Colorado - skiing

Obby, this is Deja Vu with regards to PA and VA...
My wife grew up at Harvey's Lake, PA. Her dad and uncle owned a Pontiac dealership in Kingston in the '60s.
They then moved to VA (my home state, and favorite place) in the mid '70s...
I was born/raised in central VA - it will always be home. I'd love to figure out how to get back there.
I've been in Alabama almost five years because this is where the job has taken me.
I like WV and have roots there as well. My father's ancestors immigrated to Pomeroy, OH, moved across the Ohio River into WV, and then moved over the Blue Ridge into VA around the turn of the 20th century. I have a deceased great uncle who had the first Ford dealership in the state of WV.
I agree with Blue on NC - spent some time there as well. My favorite beaches are the Outer Banks - specifically Corolla.

I really can't picture myself living anywhere other than california.
I love Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana, the wild mountain areas.

California- best skimboarding in the US. Really nice atmosphere, semi-nice people. A good vibe. I liked Laguna and Palo Alto a lot. I would move to Laguna if I knew I could get a good job quickly and it didn't cost so much to move across country.
Floridia- I'll always be fond of the beaches and the girls (best in the country hands down) as well as the weather. If you grow up in that kind of humidity like I did its hard to move to a place with dry air, I really prefer humidity. I plan on moving back to Florida next year for grad school and then almost certainly I'll be staying in Florida for the rest of my life unless something unexpected comes up.

I love Minnesota, and would not consider moving anywhere else.
If Minnesota ceased to exist, or became part of the United States of Canada, I'd probably consider someplace like Montana or Idaho.

I've lived in three states that I'd move back to, given the chance:
Minnesota (grew up there)
Colorado (for the skiing)
South Dakota (lived there 8 years, great place to raise a family)

I love Cali, because it's home.
Hawaii is great to visit. I love Maine for its lobster. From the little I've seen, I like Texas, but prefer New Mexico's desert sunsets. I love Illinois, but mainly because I grew up there. I could go on for the remaining 44, but those are up there right now. Ask me again in a few hours, and a few other states will get on the list.

CA - Lived here my whole life. I have not seen been convinced to live anywhere else in the USA.
TX - Pappas Seafood, particularly their seafood fondue.
MI - I drove from DTW to Adrian, MI via Ann Arbor and it looks like a beautiful place to live. Doesn't hurt that they have a great brewing scene there. Arbor Brewing Co. w00t!
MA - Cape cod is freaking beautiful. Hyport Brewing Co gave me some good memories.
PA - Philly has all kinds of history and they have the City Tavern, home of George Washington's original beer recipe (it's a Porter).
IL - If Chicago didn't have such the crazy weather swings, I would seriously consider moving there. The L is an amazing way to get around. And 3 Floyds Brewing Co. is only about 20 minutes away and Goose Island ain't bad either.

North Carolina - i would love to live in the OuterBanks
TX - Pappas Seafood, particularly their seafood fondue.
Oh man do I have bad memories of the seafood fondue. But Pappas =

"Song of the Fifty States" -- They Might Be Giants
NewJersey - HomeState
New York-NYC has a City that never sleeps and has some of the nicest people I've ever known.
Nevada - Vegas Baby
California - Love the Two seasons. 50 weeks of dry weather and 2 weeks of wet weather. Plus where else can you hit the slopes in the morning and finish the day at the beach in the afternoon?

Well many of my friends used to be waiters there and so they'd get free food all the time. The manager would comp the entirety of our expensive bills and so we'd get everything. One time a friend had the seafood fondue alone and then we went back to my place and drank. He ended up :puke: into the bathroom sink and filled it to the top! Bunch of cheese and beer and escargot clogging it. Pretty nasty. Then I had to goto Randall's to get some Drano at 4 am - more suckage. There are a few more nasty details which I will omit.

California - It's got everything. Great weather, cool people, some awesome big cities, beaches, mountains, deserts, snow, sun, whatever the heck you could want.
New York - I love NYC, plain and simple. And all of my relatives are from here.
Connecticut - There are some beautiful areas of this forgotten state, including right near where I have relatives in Danbury.
Massachusetts - Liked Boston a lot, Martha's Vineyard is cool, I'd like to explore more
Unfortunately I can't list my current home state, Missouri, on this list.

1. Good old Florida - Best state in my mind. Miss it beyond belief and trying hard to go back. For all those who complain of the humidity....you get used to it fast and everywhere you go there is A/C. I guess it has something to do with spending so much time down there, I never thought the humidity was that big of an issue. I remember PA in the summer gets the same way. As for why.....lets see......the ocean is probably my #1 reason. Its warm and blue water....none of this freezing my boys off even in my wetsuit crap. The diving is wonderful...the fishing is great. I can go in without my wetsuit! So much wildlife and so much life all around.
2. Pennsylvania - Beautiful and plenty of things to do. Probably helps that I was born there and grew up there. Love the food, the people, the history. :)

CA because like everyone else says, it's home. There are so many great places to choose to live in Cali too. I wouldn't mind the Bay Area, San Diego, any of the mountain communities, nearly all beach communities except in most of LA County.
HI is just freaking beautiful.
IL, cause I grew up there and have great memories.
MA just feels historic and homey.
NY cause I don't think I'd ever get bored. Niagara, NYC, Long Island...
WA just has a great brooding athmosphere.
ME has the lobsters. MMmmmmmmm.
PA has the Poconos.
I'll go even further than most people. I hate UT and AZ cause I just really horrible incidents there. Those two state's only saving grace are two huge gashes in the earth called canyons, that just happen to be awesomely beautiful. Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon are the two National Parks I've probably visited the most often. FL get's an honorable mention for the stink and humidity. Some states are just boring. SD, ND, IA, ID...

1. Cali-Like everyone else
2. Hawaii- It kicks butt there, i'm about 20 feet from going back to school there. (Won't happen though)
3. Washington- It's pretty damn beautiful there once you get past the rain/snow.
4. Oregon- same reason as washington.
CA for the beaches and mountains - just don't ask me to move back.
NY for NYC.
NC for Wilmington.
WA for downtown Seattle with it's waterfront, and the mountains.
TX for San Antonio.

California - My hometown, it's a pretty cool place to live. What other state has great beaches in the summer and great snow in the winter? The ******* population seems to be growing though.
New york - only been to manhattan, but it seems like a place I'd love to live (if I had a million bucks).
Denial - where all seem happy and things work themselves out eventually.

1. New York (NYC vicinity)
2. So. California (may as well be its own state)
3. VA (civil war history, and just the cool feeling of NorVA. VA beach is also nice)
i can't believe adrian, mi was mentioned; i thought it was some remote area. my ex is from there and whenever i mention it (to MI ppl, even) they seem to have no clue. or maybe they were paid off not to give me info....
