View Full Version : Do new iPods have built-in FM Modulators?
I'm pretty new to the world of iPods, but my friend just told me one of his friends had an iPod where it played through the radio by using an FM Modulator, but there was nothing attached to the iPod.
I know there's an attachment you can add to the iPod to get it, but do the newer iPods (4th gen, I think) have it built in?
I've seen the iPod + HP version more expensive than just the iPod. For example, I've seen the iPod 20GB for $219.99 but the iPod + HP 20 GB for $299.99
Is this because the iPod + HP is the new gen of iPods?
This is so confusing...

I saw it from CompUSA, but they're actually all sold out. Maybe it was 3rd gen stock they were trying to get rid of...?

I've only seen the Ipods plugged into modulators that you set the radio to and then listen. I just got my 4th gen ipod thanks to freeipods and i dont think there is anything like you are describing built in.

Yup, they ones I saw at CompUSA are officially off the site. I guess they WERE trying to get rid of them...oh well. :(
What your friend said was incorrect. There are NO iPods of any generation that have a built-in FM modulator. The iTrip is Apple's brand that plugs into it, but since it's made specifically for the iPod, it fits snugly on it, so you may not be able to tell at far sight.
The iPods at COMPUSA the other week were 3RD generation
4TH generation iPods retail between $270 and $300, both Apple and iPod+HP versions. There is virtually no difference in these models, just the name.... like if Sony said to another company, "we'll let you sell the WEGA line of TV's, and allow you to stamp your name on, but we get most of the profit"
4TH generation iPods...both Apple and iPod+HP versions. There is virtually no difference in these models...
I checked on PriceGrabber and compared the two versions. It seems like the HP version includes a remote control and carrying case? *shrug*
PRICEGRABBER COMPARISON (http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_compare.php/?topcat_id=2&page_id=161&page_id=161&masterids%5B%5D=3293203&masterids%5B%5D=3907094&Compare+Selected+Products.x=29&Compare+Selected+Products.y=14)
I wouldn't count on a remote being included... although someone on these boards got an HP model sometime so they could vouch...
HP's website does not list it link (http://www.shopping.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpdirect/shopping/scripts/home/store_access.jsp?product_code=PE435A%23ABA&aoid=12655&template_type=product_detail&script_name=product.cgi)

My HP 40gb didn't come with a remote or case. Just headphones and 1-usb 2.0 cable 1-firewire cable and one dock.
