I got in on the ECS Motherboard/Sempron 2500 combo at Outpost the other week. The Sempron CPU is probably around a 1.75 GHz rating. The BIOS on bootup only shows 1050MHz.
The ECS board is a model K7VTA3 with BIOS version 6.0b, which appears to be the latest update. However, the manual lists only AMD Athlon/Athlon XP/Duron processors. I am sure this MB came out long before the Sempron.

Any ideas? And is there a downloadable program to check the actual speed/frequency of the processor?

Check the motherboard BIOS and set the FSB to 166Mhz. The motherboard probably has the default FSB at 133Mhz. That should solve the problem.

Thanks, bachviet. I not only had to change the BIOS, I had to change the settings on two jumpers (after reading the manual) :)

No problem. I forgot to mention about the jumper setting because I thought it's a pretty new MB and it usually let you do via the BIOS.
