did the Dell 8400, 19" FP deal they had a few weeks ago. Ordered online, got the confirmation email that shows excatly what I wanted and ordered. Well..somehow the order got doubled, and it's all arriving today. Actually...it was attempted to be delivered yesterday but requires a signature. So...now I gotta drive to UPS and pick up 5 boxes of crap. Called Dell...and so far I get a different story from everyone I talk to. One dept said to refuse shipment, and the dept that issues the RMA's said to accept shipment and then call her and she'll issue an RMA. She stated that refusing shipment can delay credit up to 90 days. She also kinda lead on to the fact that I may have to pay for return shipping. I couldnt get a sold answer from her on that...she stated that since the order was placed online they wont be sending someone out to pick up the package. I told her...well it wasn't my mistake, the order confirmation shows excalty what I ordered, and the confirmation is 100%.

Anyways...looking for suggestions on the best way to handle this.

thanks!

I'm guessing they charged you twice? I wouldn't pay for any sort of shipping on it. I know that they can send your packaging. They overnighted me a box with prepaid airmail to send a laptop to them once.

As far as I remember, you're well within your rights to keep both. You can write them a nice letter informing them of their error and letting them know you will be keeping both computers if you'd like. It may not be the most ethical thing to do, but it's your call.

If it were me, I'd tell them they could have it back, unless they asked me to pay return shipping, in which case I'd bust out the "Oh well, guess I'll be keeping it."

edit: Also, I was assuming that they only charged you for one. If not, Definitely get them to pick up the other at no charge to you.

OH! I'd be keeping it if I wasn't charged...but yeah, they charged me for both. I might call and see what kind of price break I can get for just keeping it, and then moving it on Ebay..and maybe make a little.

thanks for the suggestions. Still open to suggetions...

yeah, make it clear - polite but firm, reiterating that you are not obligated to pay for their mistake - that you will be sending back the other one at their cost, and they ain't gettin it til they take care of the postage. if they don't do it right, take it up with your credit card company. good luck!

credit card company is dell credit...so that might not work too well. We'll see how things go...going to UPS here soon to pick them up. Gonna call after that.

Urrrk...

Talk about "gettin got" by the short and curlies...

Well good luck resolving this... This might explain why they weren't all up front about acknowledging their error.

good luck. like others have said, i can't see any reason they could force you to pay return shipping on something that they screwed up, esp. if you have the order confirmation to prove it.

This happened to me about 6 years ago with one of the online bidding sites, forgot which one now. I bought a pair of Infinity Overture 1 speakers for $450 and they sent me 2 sets. I emailed their support and was told not to worry about it, which I didn't.

I kept three myself, rear surrounds and center, and gave the 4th to my brother as a center.

Its nice to get double the order for no extra cost, too bad it didn't happen to you.

Refuse one set. It's probably the simplest way.

Well that sucks. They double charged you on one order and send you two sets.
Hmm...the best deal I got was around this time last year. I think it was like 25% off anything at Target including Gift Cards. So I bought a 50 or a hundred dollar gift card. Don't remember which. But I got two gift cards for the price of one minus the coupon code. It was schweet!

Return that stuff since you are charged for both.

Unfortunately, your leverage is limited due to payment through Dell Credit. I'd suggest contacting the Dell Credit people quickly & advise them of the situation before the total amount is fully processed. It's a little more difficult to unwind the deal as time moves on, and they need to have a clearly documented record of the glitch. Also, consider documenting ALL communications henceforth in writing...just a little CYA advice.
