There's like only one post office around that is open past 5 (until 9 actually) and it's fairly crowded, even more so during the holidays. I had 8 packages plus two letters to mail and when I got there at 7pm I was #64 and they were on #50 with only two windows open. That would have taken like 45 minutes to get to me.
Luckily they had one of those post office ATMs where you can weigh your package and it'll print out the postage. I figured I might as well use it since I had the time, but I needed to be in line because I needed to mail my passport via certified mail and I thought this machine couldn't do it. So in 5 minutes I had all my packages stamped and my passport letter was left. Lo and behold it could also do registered mail! I asked it for delivery confirmation but since I was mailing it down the street to DC, it said "one day" and didn't allow me to buy it :)
Essentially I got everything done while tons of fools sat there complaining about the line. Plus no one there was even interested in using the ATM. Heck, there was a lady who was bitching to me about why they didn't have more windows and I think she only had to mail a letter.
I love technology, and pity those who can't use it :D I was pretty giddy when I left. hehe
