I was reading on MSN this morning that starting tomorrow some people will be able to get a free three bureau credit report. It says that you will also be eligible for one free report a year. They are making it available to the western states starting December 1.

here is a link to the article

I am sorry if this isn't in the right forum. Wasn't sure where to put it.

Awesome find!!! I'm glad that you finally can get one for free without strings attached. Because the credit system is all jacked up, it is nice to keep track of everything.

yep, free credit report here I come.
Note - it won't have your FICA score, that they still will charge you for.

go type www.annualcreditreport.com if you live anywhere west of Colorado you get lucky. Rollout for Midwest is March 1, Southern is June1, and East coast Sept. 1

I say about time! Too many ID theft already, and too many monitoring service charging a bundle for doing nothing.

cheers,

I hear that everytime somebody (be it yourself or someonelse) asks for a credit report on you, your credit rating goes down a little bit. Any truth to this?

Yes and No.
It does not go down when you request it, paid or free.
It does go down a bit when you apply for credit and a company pulls it.

it goes down when somebody runs a credit check, but not by enough to matter. the only time it really can matter is if you have recently applied for a boatload of credit then it raises a red flag for creditors.
