Mt. Hood is the closest I know of but I live near Seattle YMMV. Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood is open now. And with the weather out here who knows what will be open next week.

But is fun, just drive around and see how many places you can find that Simpsons characters are named after. And shopping with no sales tax is cool, not being allowed to pump your own gas isn't much fun.

Its a nice city. The japanese gardens are a cool zen place. the downtown area and weekend market is good for food and trinkets. And there is always the trailblazers if you wanna seem some thugs...
I hope you have a good time.

Have fun. I would tell you to hit Powells books and a bunch of the microbrewery brew pubs...but then again, I have only been there once. My father-in-law lives there and as such we visited him up there. Unfortunately, most of my Oregon experiences are in lovely Medford...... where my wife grew up.

....it's been freakin' raining the whole time.
well...the driving rain turned into a driving mist so we went boarding. only took about 10 runs before we were wet enough to call it a day. the lodge was incredible. beautiful old wooden structure. and i took the pics with a night-vision feature because it was dark because of the weather. it wasn't that lit up.
incredible food in the restaurant. (better be for $170 for two people. eek ) the breakfast buffet had a waffle maker. you just poured the batter in and turned it. it beeped in 2.5 minutes and let you know it was ready. then put real maple syrup or fresh fruit on it. YUMMMM!!! also, the orange juice dispenser actually was a hopper with a bunch of oranges and it squeezed them when you pushed a button. wow. good stuff.

For those who don't know, timberline lodge is also where they filmed the Shining, so watch out for people with axes. I'll be there on Sunday, sans axe.

Hope your trip was a good one cheapie. Oregon weather has been terrible for snow so far this year, but glad you liked T-line lodge. For the record, I've heard that lately the wind has been terrible on Mt. Bachelor this year...as it usually is, so you didn't miss any great boarding conditions there.

well...it was completely free so it couldn't be all bad. i had fun with my co-worker i travelled with, got invited to a christmas party just over the border in washington last night (freightliner and kenworth are two of our largest customers and they are headquartered in portland and seattle, respectively. i called up the manager of accounts last night to see if he wanted to meet us for a drink and he told me that they were having c-mas party and invited me. nice guy. ), drank lots of great wine, and am on the way home right now...sitting in the world club in detroit.
