I have an old car does not run anymore due to an accident. I'd like to donate my car before the end of the year, but I don't know what organization is reputable. I heard about some car donation scams recently.... so does anyone have a good recommendation for car donation in the SF bay area?

www.cars4causes.com

I've donated 2 cars to them in the past 12 months and they are awesome. I don't think they do the Bay Area but they may be able to give you a lead on a charity in the Bay Area that will take your car.

America Lung Association.. donated two cars to them a while back. Very easy and legit.. to be compeltely legit though it is up to you to claim a fair value when you file taxes. I suggest using bluebook AND recent sales to get a value. Since your car isn't running, you may want to get some quotes from salvage yards. It won't be worth much.

Oh.. and they will have a local chapter, not that it matters. They have a local towing company come get it. Very easy..

also, KQED one of the local NPR stations is taking cars. I was up in the Bay Area for Thanksgiving and heard the commercial.

Purple Heart (http://www.purpleheart.org/) is a good organization - they raise money for wounded veterans, and they've been around a long time. They have a website set up for car donations (http://www.purpleheartcars.org/).
