View Full Version : Do you think Chinese restaurant owners eat their own food?
What do you think? Do they eat the American style Chinese food they serve to customers? Or go home and cook "real" Chinese food?

They go home and cook real chinese food. My uncle's in-laws are chinese and own a restaraunt. They actually serve the real chinese food. I was there as a kid for my aunt and uncle's wedding reception and was eating what I thought were tortilla chips... turned out it was duck foot webbing. I've never been back since!

A friend of mine's family owns a chinese restaurant. They eat the food they cook there. I dunno what they eat at home, but they dont have a problem eating whats on their menu.

There's a greasy taco joint run by some Vietnamese down the street. I came in late one night and they had cooked up their own food, some deadly looking fish dish. The fish was whole, and was really boney. Anyway, it smelled pretty good so I asked what it was. he just said, "not for sale."

:spock: :stupid: My thoughts exactly
As for the duck foot webbing... Duck feet is actually kinda rare for a lot of chinese people to eat. I personally love it, but most of my friends refuse to even touch it.

"Well thats fan-hapoo-tastic!"
"his hapoo was broken so i lent him mine"
"that car is so hapoo"

The chinese restaurant owners that I know do... not so much because they like the food but because there's always left overs and they don't want the food to go to waste. That, and they're cheap.

One of my favorite local Chinese restaurants is a family-owned buffet style place. Almost everytime we're there, we see a couple of the workers come out of the kitchen, fill up a plate, and eat at a table in the dining room. Occassionally, we see the whole family eating together. I like seeing them eat the food they serve.

At the Chinese place I frequented, just about every time we were there we'd see the whole family eating together at a table. Lots of times it was duck or something like that.

It's not like the food they serve is trash. It's still usually some decent food. It may not be the style of food they enjoy or may be too for them, but in some shape or form, it's still chinese food.

my parents used to have a chinese restaurant and then a take out...
did we ever eat what we served? of course. but on most days we'd eat traditional basic type meals
I mean, it wasn't like fried rice and chicken egg foo young all the time.
almost always it was just plain white rice with a simple dish...beef w/brocc...fish...some sort of soup
it's like american restaurants...they serve steak and burgers and that sort of stuff...and although that may be on the dinner plate some nights...it's most likely a cassorole or meat loaf or something...
so to answer your question (from my point of view)...yea we eat our own food that is served, but on most occasions, the meals are more traditional type meals (not the commercialized menu favorates)
just like gear02 said, it's still chinese food...and either way, it's still food
