On black friday, I picked up an I/O magic 16x dvd +/- R DL drive for a good price. Now the question is, will it operate in my system or should I just stock pile it with a few other non-obsolete pieces that I have been hoarding for my next build?

The system, which is frankly laughable in terms of slowness, is my 500mhz P3 Micron. I know that spec wise, I have seen some DVD burners that say they can function on a 500 mhz at slowest, this one claims 750 at slowest, 1.2ghz or faster recommended.

I would like to start using it, but dont want to install it if its not going to work/be worth the effort....so what does everyone think?

TIA.

I know its a simple process....I was just trying to find out if anyone had knowledge of the outcome to save myself the process of unwiring everything, pulling out the tower, installing the new drive (probably having to unhook one of them), and then reattaching everything. I can just see it not working and having to redo everything again.

I had an AMD K7 system that was given to me and I tried to put a DVD burner. It would play at a very slow, strobe-like pace. I could not get it to burn any media (even after I built a new computer and put it in there) so I did not get a chance to try that part. I eventually got a new drive for my new comp.

I think you will have more troubles then good. You can always try but i have seen a lot of wasted dvd's on a 900 system
