Well actually my friend is looking for one, but I am helping her out.

Basically I need a decently fast laptop that will handle word processing/ emailing/ chatting... you know all that basic stuff.
Decent hard drive ~4gigs or so I guess, and good tech support because my friend does not really know much about computers and if anything goes wrong I don't want to have to be the one fixing everything http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/wink.gif

So ya I am looking for one right now but if anyone knows of any good deals let me know. Thanks!

Whatever you do, please *god* don't look for an iBook. Friends don't let friends get iBooks. The G3 laptops from Apple are completely respectable but the iBooks are... well... toilet seats.

Oh man don't worry, the only reason I would by a Mac would be to blow it up, run it over, or just generally destroy it. Down with apple! http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/wink.gif I can't stand them.

If you don't mind a refurbished model, you can check laptop auctions at http://www.auctionwatch.com . You can compare auction prices at dozens(?) of different sites, eBay, Yahoo, Amazon, uBid, etc.

You could also check http://www.biddersedge.com which is similar to auctionwatch and also shows the average price the merchant has sold the same laptop for in previous auctions. This can help you tell if the current price is a good deal or not.
