View Full Version : Need ISP Suggestions
My parents are looking for a cheaper ISP.
They currently have a cable connection (Road Runner) that costs $45/month, but since they only use the net for surfing and email, it seems a bit expensive.
Also they don't want something that will tie up the phone line so no dial-up.
Is SBC Yahoo DSL a good choice for $26.95/month? I'm also concerned about DSL degrading the quality of telephone calls. Has anyone experienced this?
Thanks for your advice!

Yes SBC Yahool DSL at $27/month is a good price. I'm currently using it and I don't see any degrading quality of the phone calls.

as long as they use the filters that come with the whole installation package, there shouldn't be any degrading quality.

Do you know how many filters come with the installation package? I need at least 6.
Also, does this mean that I won't be able to wall mount the telephones?

i don't know how many filters come with the install package; if i remember correctly, not all phones need filters. my parents have SBC Yahoo dsl and i think the only phone using a filter is the phone in the same room as the modem. they do have a wall-mounted phone in the kitchen, but i'm not sure if it uses a filter or not. hopefully someone else here can help ya out. :)

Pretty much SBC Global DSL got the best deal going for not much more than what AOL charges.

I think 4 filters come with the modemn. Typically you only need one where the modemn is connected but I had problems with other phones so I installed all 4. There is one filter designed for wall mount.

My GF just got the SBC DSL package. Her shipment included one wallplate splitter/adapter and four of the plugin ones. If your parents need more, they can just mention it to the SBC rep and they'll include additional ones.
Depending on your region SBC is offering all sorts of deals on DSL. My GF is paying $19.95/mo for a year for upwards of 1500 kbits d/l. (According to dslreports.com (http://www.dslreports.com/)'s test tools, last night she was getting 1100 kbits d/l, which is pretty cool.)
