I tried the demo to this and it wasn't bad at all - I just have no time right now to dedicate to it. I seriously considered buying it at Fry's - then I bought Half Life 2 instead. ;)

I am going to buy it... just havent had the time to dedicate to a new game as of yet... perhaps after the holidays.

I thought it looked really, really cool. Being LOTR and all doesnt hurt either.

hehe i was just wondering if the game has a lot of features like wc3 [good ai, multiple options for heros, etc]. i dont like playing rts games that have only 1-2 different things a hero can do...like C&C

Definately agree with your comments about BFME. I got to try this one this weeekend and it is one of the better RTS titles I've played in a while.

I got to see some single player missions, and took part in some multiplayer as well. Both were very fun. :) AI seemed quite good (and TOUGH at points), and I had some good competition from my friends during the multiplayer runs.

One thing I really liked about this is how easy it was to get started. It didn't take too long to figure out how to do most things, and even when I was stumped, once my friend showed me what to do, I was like "I should've been able to figure THAT out"

Highly recommended title. Will be buying it myself this week.

yarrrr!!! I really want to play BFME, but I couldn't play it. I have a AMD 2600+ and a Geforce 5800 but it runs incredibly slow...

Rome: Total War will last me until Age of EmpiresIII comes out in the RTS dept.

Seriously ?! That's not a slow system. How much could possibly be going on?

I dunno exactly how much is going on behind the scenes, but I have a 2.8/800 P4, 1.5 RAM and a 9800 Pro... and I can see slow downs with massive armies on the screen. 'Tis a fun game though, for the most part. I always build up a huge batallion of Rohirrim and go sqaush everybody... 'cept for those lil pokey spear dudes isengard has... I mean WTF? They tear you up. I see those guys and usually go running away likea coward.

i'm running a P4 3.06 HT, 1gig pc2700, Radeon 9700 Pro and it runs fine. never really slows down at all.

The game is pretty fun, very simple creation process. At first i was getting wupped, then i starting having my defense army just defend while i build up and upgrade my super army to take over everyone woo ha ha. Only done 3 lvls thouhg lol.

my problem with lotr isnt exactly "slowing down", but more like crazy colored blocks covering up parts of the map.

Battle for Middle Earth is a fun and deep game, single player mode is good, but definitely check out the Mod sites- they add heroes and units to the game and by far increase the fun factor. I think it's one of the better RTS' I've played and its only made better because its LOTR units.

Battle for Middle Earth is a fun and deep game...

Uh no. BFME (got it a couple of weeks ago) is NOT a deep game. It's fun, yes, but not deep. There is one resource. There is one way to get that resource. All the missions are pretty much the same three styles:
1. build up an army and conquer through shear numbers (about 20 missions)
2. guide your heros through a maze to a town, then have the town build up armies to do #1 (three missions)
3. protect a town for a little while then do #1 (two missions)

It's still a fun game, but I got so bored with it, I have yet to finally storm the black gate. (I'm playing HF2 and NWN again instead)

or the designers put a lot of deep thought into the game, cuz the detail is outstanding

Horses....blah. It's all about Gandalf being swarmed by hundreds of baddies and killing them all in one stroke.

I have played many RTS in my day and I have to say that BFME is really fun (altho much of it due to the simple fact that it is LOTR) but it is not that deep. The single player can be blazed through and multiplayer gets repetitive although the game is very fun. Just don't expect the fun to last forever, or even as long as most RTS.
