I want to get my father a capture device that would allow him to take old home video VHS tapes and capture them to his computer. I'd appreciate any suggestions on wht I hope would be a great Christmas present. Thank you.

Basically, any TV in/TV out card can do this function... as long as you have good software to capture the file.
As always, my recommendation is an Asus TV Card and Cyberlink PowerVCR & Power Director software.

:stupid:
I have an Asus TV tuner for capturing TV signal. I haven't done any VHS converting yet though.

Thanks goys. I looked at the Asus and it only seemed to have an antenna in (no yellow, red, white) for video and audio.

Well you didn't state a price range. Purchased this myself a few months back and it does a great job.

It comes with an adapter, which is connected to the S-video on the tuner card. The adapter has S-video and RCA in.

There is an adapter plug that comes with it that plugs into the back that includes the red, white, and yellow inputs.

Thanks for the reply. Looks great but I was looking for something in the $100 range.
While searching I saw the Pinnacle Systems Studio AV/DV 9? Says it will capture from VHS forward. Does anyone have any experience with it?
Thanks.
Oops...didn't see your post DF. Thanks.

I'm all for spending as little ca'ching as possible. I hadn't seen you 10:16 post when I sent my 10:17. When I saw it, immediately after posting, I edited mine to thank you for your post but I hadn't seen the price.
