if you want to see the landmarks of the city take a Duck Tour (http://www.affiliate.viator.com/brochure/product_show.jsp;jsessionid=aRZSCP1lYBv6?ID=1010&PRODUCTID=1016&CODE=3037DUCK&AUID=2222)

I particularly recommend having a pint at Anam Cara Publick House (http://www.beeradvocate.com/beerfly/user_reviews/2247/) or mosey on down to RedBones BBQ (http://www.beeradvocate.com/beerfly/user_reviews/965/) for a pint and some grub.

it was worth the 27 bones to me. when was the last time you rode in an authentic, renovated World War II amphibious landing vehicle? you get a nice "boat" ride at the end too.

I was in the cab when my friend in HS drove his dad's old pickup into a creek and got stuck. does that count?

Redbones is down the street from me and I don't know if he'll necessarily come all the way out of Boston to get there. The food there is nothing special - just a meat place with a nice bar called Underbones downstairs. If you really wanted to get something good to eat and do touristy stuff, go to Cheers in Fanueil Hall (not the original one) and grab a burger and a beer.

There's lots to do.. But you need to tell us what you're into. Boston's a small city, but got lots of stuff to do!

You've got to hit up the Common, and be sure to buy some of the fresh cinnamon almonds. As a preview, here's a picture from my last visit there:

The duck tours aren't bad, but the locals tend to mock them. :)

of course they mock them. the drivers try to get the riders to "quack" to everyone. :P

What exactly is "The Common"?

The Boston commons is a park in downtown boston. Kinda like land for everybody. They have a little ice skating rink setup during the winter time. Just a nice park in boston which is fun to walk through in the winter time or hang out in the summer time and read a book and watch all the girls sunbath...

Update of an official description of it

"
The starting point of the Freedom Trail. The Boston Common is known to be one of the oldest public parks in the country. The park is almost 50 acres in size. Today, Boston Common is the anchor for the Emerald Necklace, a system of connected parks that winds through many of Boston's neighborhoods. The "Common" has been used for many different purposes throughout its long history. Until 1830, cattle grazed the Common, and until 1817, public hangings took place here. British troops camped on Boston Common prior to the Revolution and left from here to face colonial resistance at Lexington and Concord in April, 1775.

Location: Bound by Tremont, Beacon, Charles and Boylston Streets"

Ya, I remember every summer they have this food event or something. All i know is you play like 15$ to get tickets and go around and eat a ton of food for cheap and they have a free concert going on. Can't beat steak tips from a good resteraunt for 3$ :D.

Stoned, you could always go on a tour of fenway, should last an hour or two. They probably won't let you on the field due to weather and the fact that they ripped up the grass to install a new drainage system. But it is fun to walk around, you might even get to see the WS trophy.

Go to Hahvuhd, and take a picture of the place that Asian kids dream about. While in Billerica, could you do me a favor? Find Dick Silva's house and take a picture of it. I've been enamored with that place since they rebuilt the place from scratch on This Old House.

The Common's a pretty cool place to be - part of it has the Frog Pond, which is Boston's take on inside the park ice-skating a la Woolman Rink of Central Park. It's pretty cheap, and you can generally get in at all times during the day, if you're into it of course.

If you're in the city of Boston the best place to start is probably at the Quincy Market/Fanueil Hall area. If you're taking the T, you can get off at Government Center stop on the green line. 10 minute walk from there is the North End, which has good (but very expensive!) Italian food. The Common is also another 5 minutes away.

If you like walking around you can then take either Newbury or Boylston Street and walk out towards Copley Square area. Otherwise it's a short green line T ride away. Then wrap it all up by the Harvard Sq area - there's not much to see there except for a few shops and the university, but that may be your thing.

Alright I'll ask around to see if anyone knows where it is. Could you try to find the address online?

Yeah check out Quincy Market/Fanuel Hall area(Government Center T Stop on the green line). Going to harvard is fun to see as well, if you are taking public transportation (aka the T) take the Red Line and get off at Harvard.

Boston Commons is nice but rather cold right now, was 25 this morning when i left for work.

Also if you have anyone else here with you i would highly suggest eating in the North End. Best italian food anywhere you go down there.

Good shopping down on newberry street. as my bro said a tour of fenway is fun is you are a sox/baseball fan. Unfortunately you can't go on the field right now since they are tearing it up.

http://www.mbta.com/ to get the subway schedules and things, can use their trip planner to figure out where to get off at.

Good bar scene downtown. If you need some restaraunts around where you are let me know, depending on how much you want to spend there are quite a few in the downtown area

(this is where i work http://www.bu.edu/alumni/cam/plaza/large.html that big tall building in the back)

Thanks for your suggestions everybody! I probably can't do the duck tour this time around, since my training here is from 9-5. I'm gonna definitely go to Harvard, check out the commons, and try to do some shopping.

Hey SW, spot me the money for the flight, and I'm there. I've been to Boston three whole times, but I can at least give you the beginner's lesson. :)

LOL...man I actually tried to surf a bit on the "This old house" site to find the address. Sarcasm can be hard to detect on the Internet!

Well, no. Not sarcasm, just odd thinking that comes up after your brain is fried on finals. I do like the house, but there's no reason for you to get arrested for being a peeping Tom. You're a cool guy. If you ever come south from the bay area, I'll get you lunch sometime.
