View Full Version : Looking for board game pieces
I'm looking for a place to buy game pieces for board games - universal things like houses that can be used in Monopoly or Settlers, that sort of thing. Dice are very easy to find, other things not so much. I've seen the stuff that Cheapass Games has to offer, but they're not quite what I'm looking for. Anyone have any suggestions?

there was a place online that has a warehouse of replacement parts for really, really old games... i'll look that up if that's what you want, but it sounds more like you're building something from scratch?
look at wizards of the coast ... they do all the miniatures for dungeons and dragons, and they have several lines of affordable plastic stuff that looks pretty nice. mostly figures, but some buildings, too.

now, if you want the pimped out castle... drool over dwarven forge's master maze ... not cheap, not small, but soooooo pretty :D

similar, cheaper, more work, and more versatile are castle molds:
http://www.hirstarts.com/
and finally, have you looked into the stuff that architects make their models out of? any architectural supply store should have stuff for cutting and making your own buildings (balsa is commonly used), books on model-making technique, and little pre-fab people, trees, and buildings... i can't think of any architecture supply stores... dickblick, maybe? art... something... yeah. i'll ask my sister.
oh, and i also remember stumbling upon a website that will cast in molded plastic ANYTHING you want in ANY quantity. of course, i'll never remember the name of it... but it's out there!
and finally... a DIY way to make anything you want is to cast it with dental stone using the lost wax technique. easy, fun, pretty dummy-proof if you're careful, cheap. you make whatever you want in wax, encase the wax in one type of stone. then you melt out all the wax, and fill the mold with a second, more durable type of stone. you can also make the mold out of a heavy plastic-like stuff that makes the mold re-usable. email the people at whipmix with a brief description of what you want to do, and they'll hook you up with the right compounds to do it.

Not from scratch really. THO and I have been playing Settlers of Catan a lot lately. We've tweaked the rules a bit to allow for better 2-person play, but we're having to use two different colors of the roads and settlements when we play. She'll take white and red, I'll use yellow and blue, etc. This is a little awkward - having twice as many same-colored pieces would be handy. We also play several Cheapass games, which require pieces (dice, tokens, etc) from other games to play. All of this together is what made me start looking for generic game pieces that could be used for any number of games.
Thanks for the links. :)

Have you looked at www.MJSCreations.com?
They have lots of pieces available, and also design and produce custom board games if you want to go that far.
BTW...
They helped us produce our DOGOPOLY.com game :)

click a token a the bottom to enter, then select "buy game pieces"

* sand timers
* cards
* various houses
* poker and other chips

I'm not sure if they have castles, but I think they can get them.
