Amber Alert issued after fetus removed from mother's body

(CNN) -- Missouri authorities issued an Amber Alert for an infant who may have survived after a woman was slain and a fetus removed from her body.

Bobbi Jo Stinnett, who was eight months' pregnant, was killed Thursday afternoon in her home in Skidmore in northwestern Missouri, the Nodaway County Sheriff's Department said.

The initial Amber Alert said that "the fetus was extracted from the victim."

A statement from the sheriff's department said the fetus was removed by the same "person or persons" who killed Stinnett.

Authorities said Stinnett was killed at around 3 p.m. (4 p.m. ET).

The alert said that the suspect "has blond hair and possibly driving a red vehicle."

It advised people to look for bloody clothing or towels and said the infant could have health issues and would have a freshly cut umbilical cord if alive.

Authorities said that Stinnett was a white woman and the offspring also was believed to be a white female.

this happened a few years ago... a white woman with a black husband got killed and her baby was stolen by an infertile interracial couple...

kind of the carjacking of kidnapping. horrifying. it's amazing what people can convince themselves to do...

now that this has happened twice, i bet the media starts turning this into "THE BIG NEW THREAT." it'll be a media fad, just like shark attacks are every 5-10 summers or so... every station will do a special report on how this relates to YOU...

and then we'll be getting emails that say "forward this to every pregnant woman you know! it might save a life!"

pretty good chance the baby will survive at 8 months without needing medical attention... hope they find her and return her to her family. hopefully she has a little respiratory distress and needs to be taken to the emergency room... best chance of finding her. that, or someone who knows the kidnapper turning her in.

weren't they calling conner peterson the "dead fetus"? for legal purposes, it is simply called a "fetus" when itis removed by force rather than born...

quick political tangent: probly because abortion-rights advocates are so terrified of any move in the direction of restricting abortion ...and a change in terminology from "fetus" to "baby" could potentially be used to limit abortion by plugging this name change into existing laws.

for example: there is a law in the works called conner's law, which would make an act that killed a fetus murder, rather than just assault on a part of the mother. dems had previously opposed the law, because of the potential for using it to prosecute women who had abortions.

i am happy to report that, as of last week, the powers that be in the dem party have calmed down a bit. their former stance was to be so terrified of restricting abortion that they opposed even the most no-brainer of proposed restrictions. now, they are moving to the middle, favoring several restrictions (partial-birth, third timester, etc) so long as they have broad protection for the life/health of the mother. there's hope for the dem's future yet...

Yes! They found the baby, perfectly healthy, I believe.

Some wackjob nutso lady was taking it to church, acting like it was hers, etc. Someone called police after hearing the story (in Kansas, don't remember where), and having seen her with the baby and knowing she hadn't been pregnant.

She (I believe) confessed to murdering the woman and stealing the baby.

they don't give a final conclusion in that article above. they say she confessed and the baby was in the hospital, i just wasn't sure if the baby lived or not.
