View Full Version : Gift Baskets
Not sure where this belongs, but I am having the most difficult time shopping for my Aunts and Uncles and figured I would just get them a gift basket for Xmas. I have found a handful of nice baskets online, but want to try to avoid the shipping costs since I'll be seeing my relatives next weekend.
What stores sell gift baskets (preferably snacks/food/candy; instead of body shop type baskets)?
My price range is probably between $30-$40 and I will need 3 baskets. Any suggestions?
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. TIA!

make the baskets yourself. otherwise you get hosed, and this way, the results are exactly what you want. so first, buy what you want to put in the baskets. allow $10 for the basket itself and wrapping when deciding how much to spend.
go to a craft store, where you can buy whatever size baskets you need, and more importantly, decorative grassy stuff for pretty filler, and SHRINK WRAP... shrink wrap with a big ribbon will make it look professional. it's jsut this plastic sheet, i think i'ts fairly cheap, and you hit it with a good hot hair dryer and it srinks up and conforms to the shape of whatever you wrapped it around.
and it's also perfectly good-looking without the shrink-wrap... just a basket, grassy stuff, and a bow on the handle.

i think harry and davids sells some nice baskets.
but like welfare said, you're going to get a hell of a lot better value making it yourself.
btw, if you have a world market around you (i don't know if they have those out in california), you can go there to get good gourmet items, wine, beer, etc for a pretty reasonable price.

I went to walmart, bought one of those cheese and sausage gift things for $14.99. I'm just going to take it all out of the box and put it in a basket I bought at a dollar store.

Sam's Costco
There is always a "holiday store" in the mall open for the season that would have baskets. Hickory Farm would be an example of many :)

a coffee basket works too-
Giant can of coffee from the aldi store...2 mugs from the dollar store..throw in some cookies, hot chocolate packages, tea bags....voila! all set..

My vote goes with the rest of the crowd to make your own-- it's really easy.
I know of several smaller shops that do baskets of wine, cheese, cookies, crackers and all sorts of gourmet items. One guy even does a beer drinker's basket.

Yeah, do it yourself, not just to save money (heck, you could still spend $30-$40 on each) but so you can tailor-make them according to their interests. Maybe one likes fine wine, so fill it with a couple bottles of good wine, a corkscrew, glasses and cheese. If your uncle is mechanical, make one with lots of meat and maybe a couple tools. My wife, for example, would love one with stuff like chai and cappuccino mix. Be creative! Your relatives will never forget it and you'll be the talk of the party.

Got one of those too! And a hot cocoa one. This year is gift basket year. Since I started at Marzetti I've collected so much free stuff that I've been making salad gift baskets too!
