I'm running an Asus A7V8X-X motherboard and I see it supports UDMA133, but is there anything required to run something like the new Western Digital 10,000rpm drives that use Serial ATA? Would it be compatible? I don't know a whole lot about this new interface other than the fact that it's fast. I just know with something like scsi you have to use a controller for it...

SATA is an entirely different hookup. So you probably dont have anywhere to plug it into your motherboard.

Just go buy a SATA controller card.. they aren't all that expensive. Check out controllers by Promise.
Since your board doesn't have a built-in SATA controller (sez Asus) (http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7N8X-X&langs=09), you'd have to do like the others said, and go out and buy a PCI SATA Controller card.
