When tax time rolls around I plan on upgrading my system. I find that I am only meeting the minimum system requirements of a lot of the newer games so it's time for an upgrade... What I want to do is upgrade enough of the components in my system so that I can actually build 2 systems. One for gaming and the other for internet, burning cd's, music, burning DVD's, movies, etc. And the other system for nothing but gaming. I went to Newegg.com because someone had suggested that site to me for computer parts. Here's my system at a glance and here's what I was looking at-
My System-
1000Mhz Duron Processor
Asus A7v8x-x
512MB pc2700 DDR
WD 80GB 8mb
ATI Radeon 9200 128MB
Lite-On 16x DVD rom
Philips 24x-12x-32x burner
19" View Sonic
Altec Lansing ADA-885 speakers
Onboard AC97
This is a rough overview of what I was looking at, if you have any suggestions on changing a part to something that would work better then let me know...
*ASPIRE X-Infinity Black ATX Mid-Tower Case with 350W Power Supply, Model"ATXB6KLW-BK/350" -$54
*AMD Duron 1.8Ghz (Applebred)- $53
*Thermaltake SILENT BOOST Highest Performance Cooler for AMD AthlonXP up to 3400+ - $28
*Asus A7v8x-x- $53
*Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200- $198
*Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD740GD, OEM Drive Only- $177
*Sony Internal 16X DVD+R / Double Layer/DVD+RW Drive, Model DRU710A-$86
*SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9600XT Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "100575-RED" - $153
*Logitech Z-5300e 5.1 THX Certified Speaker System -$154
*Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS PCI Sound Card, Model "SB0350"- $81
*ROSEWILL RKM800SLV Silver Desktop Wireless Keyboard and Mouse- $20
*Serial ATA cable- $8
*Arctic Silver thermal compound- $7
All of this comes to $1075 so far. I can't think of anything else that I would need... Looks expensive but when I think of the price of these newer systems that are similar in performance they're more like $1500 and no where near as nice. Also I have heard that it's possible you an overclock those applebred processors to 2.5ghz and up the cache from 64kb 256kb. What do you think about it?
